The game is really polished, from sound to mechanics. I really like the leaderboards you have as well; nice touch. Good game man ;O
This game is insanely good. The graphics, audio sound effects, music, and lighting all make this an amazing experience. I was blown away even more by the changed weapon, and how you even have a boss fight in this epic arcade like game. Fantastic, kept playing until I got a high score. Nice implementation of that as well, would love to see a randomly generated version for more fun.

Funny you should mention randomly generated. Me and my Audio partner have discussed working on a procedurally generated version of this for both PC and mobile. If we can get some more requests for that it's something we would be glad to work on. I just didn't have enough time in a week to get that all setup in time.

incredible game!, got close to the top 10 but gave up lol, art style is also simple but great, i really enjoyed this one
10/10, but mostly because I played until I ranked in the top 10. Hmmm. Since I got 6th rank, 6/10? NAW.... But in all seriousness, This was the most fun I've had in any of the GameJam games so. Good work!

Wow what an awesome design idea! It was fun and challenging, but not frustrating (currently my record is 98 hehe) I will try again after work. The controls feel nice and responsive too. Theme is used great! The sprite art style is awesome and the colors/particles/lighting/sound are awesome too. Great job submitting a game to the jam! Please check out mine when you have time :)

A superb game in every rateable aspect, it is incredible it was made only by two people. Love the world ranking feature, it made me want to try it over and over again to get to the top 10. Sadly I didnt made it for 2 points :(

Awesome! I really love the art, its so cute and gives great atmosphere to the game. The idea is so simple but very good and well executed, well done! Sounds and music are fitting too :) Overall I really love it, great job! Also the leaderboard is a great idea!
As many have mentioned, this can be very successful as a phone game! It's amazing how much details and polish you put in as well.

very polished game, i liked almost everything about it, mechanics were innovative (atleast i've never played anything like it before) and most importantly - simple enough to jump right into it and have fun without walls of text explaining how it works which i value very highly in jam games. i think bats were little bit lackluster since i could just rush trough them and there wasn't any way for them to stop me so that made them trivial. (maybe them following player endlessly and being killable by traps would make them more relevant). also more expressive animations on monkey wouldn't hurt. music melody was great but instruments were too loud/chirpy and that's not my cup of tea.

To be honest we kind of run out of time towards the end, i did have "IMPROVE BATS" on my todo list, but unfortunately just ran out of time :).
Would have liked to make them be killed by traps and such, I'm personally planning on spending the whole of today rating games in this jam but will be going back in next week to fix up some bugs and make some improvements. I will fix the bats there.
I'm still a beginner when it comes to pixel art, so animations are still something i need to improve on, thanks for the feedback.

Very nice art, visual effects and awesome sound design! I like how the animations give an indication on what is going to happen. It's a bit difficult and unforgiving at times but overall nice game :)
(also nice addition of an online scoreboard)
Thanks, hope you enjoyed it. We kind of aimed for making it difficult as we wasn't sure how much time we would have to make the level as big as we wanted, so we opted to make it more tricky overall.

Porting it to mobile is definitely an option, we'll see if others feel the same way over the coming weeks and if so will look into some mobile controls for it.
Everything about this seems so polished, my only note is that the hitbox on the character seems a little unforgiving, but I absolutely adore this game.
These means the world to us honestly, thank you so much.
We did have some collision size issues early on which i did fix, however i think the main issue is a bug slipped through which causes the torch's trigger box to hit spikes etc when attacking, i will hopefully get that fixed in the coming days!
