How does the game fit the theme?
In Eye on the Storm you chase a tornado with your trusty camera and scrappy car, in your desperate attempt to get views and become famous before it sucks you in or you lose its tracks, so risking everything for fame!
What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
We used the plugin: Spatial Gardener
We used the shader material: Pixel Dither (https://godotshaders.com/shader/pixeldither-color-quantizer-with-palette-support/)
We used the font: Apple II (https://www.kreativekorp.com/software/fonts/apple2/)

Fantastic vibe and concept. The viewport being intentionally small is cool but did end up hitting the frustrating side of that balance. Well executed!
Thank you so much! <3 and yes we need to balance it when we can work on it again!
Wow this is really amazing! Very cool and unique take on the theme, I love it. Wrestling the car against the tornado felt great as well. I know it's basically impossible for a jam game, but I'd love a version of this that actually had houses and stuff getting sucked up, where we really have to chase the tornado and such. For a jam, this is incredible stuff!
Omggg this game great!! The art looks incredible and the sound is perfect!! The game also really fits the theme which is great, i really enjoyed the risky feeling of it, even if i sucked at the game! I did have trouble using the radar that tells you where the tornado is going next. Amazing work still! Congrats on submitting this!
I really liked it, I think it fit the theme very well and it's a lot of fun to risk getting close to the tornado, an improvement system would really be great, it was a good work
Amazing art and overall aesthetic. Stormchasing is such a perfect concept for the theme, and I love how you get much more views the closer you are to the storm, very cool submission
I really like the concept and this was a lot of fun to play! Like a few others said, rain, more debris, and things caught in the tornado would make it feel more substantial but the core gameplay is still fun! I can't help but wonder what an upgrade system for the car or livestream between storms could do for replayability. Regardless, great submission!
Neat game I liked it a lot. The visuals are nice and it's really funny seeing the view count increase a ton when I get extremely close to dying. Only thing that would make it better is if there was more destructible objects that would get views if you saw them like in other storm chasing games.
OMG THE ARTSTYLE IS SO CISPY AND PRETTY NOMNOMNOM AFGHEIHGVHER MY FAVOURITE!! could really use a tutorial and a main menu so the player knows what their objective is, overall very awesome game and clearly so much work was put in it!!! love it!!!
ty!!!! we'll try to make it more obvious, the post-it inside the car might be a lil too smoll qwq
game really needs tutorial. this is the only missing thing.
enjoyed it very much, hope to see it keep developing
Stunning presentation! I love the palette and all the details of the car interior, the environment and the tornado. Chasing the storm is a cool interpretation of the theme and this is solidly executed. Great work!
Cool idea and visuals, strong pacific drive vibes. What I missed most were the VFX effects of wind, rain and damaged trees, as well as car sounds other than the engine, such as windscreen wipers, road surface, etc. It would also be cool to hear sounds from the livestream, e.g. subs, achievements for the number of viewers, e.g. 500, 1000, 5000, etc.
The view of the interior looks great, I like the tension added from it being at night as well. I enjoyed driving around and getting the best shots of the tornado. It almost feels like the music and atmosphere should be spookier, with the restricted fov from being inside the car it's a little scary for sure, especially once you start getting grabbed and drifting closer. Great work on the interior and world UI, seriously, huge fan of that.
thanks!!! :3
About the feedback, do you perhaps think the music's a little bit too upbeat?
Also another question if you don't mind, did you find the low FOV fitting? trying to give a claustrophobic feeling
Interesting idea! The game gives Pacific Drive vibes, your team did an awesome job!
<3
Directly hit one of our dreams in another life: be a Tornado Hunter.
We really love the art style and atmosphere alongside the basic concept of the game.
The music, assets and environment are really cool to see and help to immerse the player quickly. Sound effects and driving mechanics should be improved.
The tornado and its continuous changes of direction give us the right feeling of anxiety, like when you go inside a storm with an umbrella.
We can’t rank it, but good job, guys!
glad you liked :3
what would you improve about the driving mechanics?
Maybe support a controller will help to keep car movement more smooth instead normal keyboard.
Engine sounds get annoying pretty quickly when the car is not running.
Give to the player the ability to control the volume could be a good solution to land on different computers with different audio mix.
Quite an interesting premise on tornado chasers (I think on Discovery Channel, been a while). I does suck at driving so I did get caught in the tornado quite a few times XD. Atmosphere, art and music were on point as well. I guess the gameplay itself can use some diversity but I'm sure what would add to the experience
Hmm yes we'll definitely add some diversity post gamejam! Do you think random events such as weather changes would make the game more interesting? And maybe a difficulty slider
Also thanks alot for the feedback :3
Maybe a more chill difficulties for people who just want the experience I think, but make it not the default difficulty since getting sucked up is indeed a core part of the game.
Other weather conditions would be neat, though I think something that helps point to where the tornado is/gonna form like in real life (certain cloud formation etc)
SOooo, about the something that tells you where the tornado is, that should have been the radar on the right, with an arrow that points to the current direction of the tornado (compared to the player) and its future change of direction, we are just having some problem making the second one work.
we'll definetly consider the difficulty thing btw, thanks alot :3
Yeah. I found the radar, I just think a weather pattern would be great as well.
oh! got it
First of, i'm biased i absolutely love driving games with this asthetic like this for example pacific drive, and you delivered on the asthetic and atmosphere side, the gameplaythough wasn't the most interesting as there was really nothing to do except for just driving behind the tornado, but visualy and audio wise it was a wet dream for me
Thank you for playing! :3
Glad we managed to nail the atmosphere!! On the gameplay feedback, I agree, we're planning on adding different difficulties and events to make up for the lack of content, but post jam.
Very cool game, But i got bored pretty quickly.
First of all, this game is super cool, and I really love the concept. It fits the theme perfectly. The closer to the tornado, the faster growth of the view. There are still some points need to be polished. The driving feeling is a little bit off, when I pressed the left or right key (A and D) with forward (W), the car turns very quickly, which will make the viewport switch quickly, and sometimes I will lose the direction and it is hard to measure the distance between me and the tornado. Also the mouse control is very sensitive, probably the static cameras and switching between them is a better solution. (For example, the camera will look forward normally, and when I pressed a certain key, the player will look at a certain position like the prediction screen of the tornado.) And lastly, I am not sure if I missed some mechanics, but I saw the tornado crossing the wire fence and I didn't find the path crossing the fence, then I lost the sight of the tornado.
Thanks a ton for the feedback! We're glad you liked it, and we'll try to patch the controls soon to make the game less tideous to play.
I loved everything about this game (except for the driving part.) The game really does embody risk, making me want to get that view counter ticking faster!
Thank you for playing!
What did you not like about the driving? Any and all feedback is appreciated!
I kinda meant more as a personal opinion (read: skill issue) because I kept running into things. I guess there's a lot of things on the screen, so it's a bit hard to see where I'm going. I'll play the game a few more times so that I can offer you more constructive criticism.
On a different note, I felt like I'd never seen anything like this and I showed it to my friends, who also agreed!
Gives off a mystical vibe
