very ambitious and good atmosphere, especially through the sky, the sounds and the characteristic dark blue spikes.

the jumping also felt pretty good. i tried climbing some rocks and it was fun.

however, quite buggy so i didn't feel like spending a lot of time.

Cool game! The combat is neat, and the environment is interesting. I'm definitely gonna get that bunny next time! The tie to the theme is very loose, but good job overall ^-^

Very unique experience and something I didn't expect in a game jam (3D atmospheric game with combat & puzzles). The graphics are decent and the sound design is pretty great.

The camera head bobbing, the spear being in your vision (especially when walking left) and the camera moving even when you are standing still gave me a bit of motion sickness, that needs some work I think.

The combat is overall solid, though more feedback when you are actually hitting an enemy would be great. Had a hard time figuring out if I'm winning or not in some fights.

I think one cultist by the big gate was invincible in one attempt and also the gate would not open for me after putting the 3 cubes on the pedestals (that was the puzzle, right?). I got through it though by running fast enough before it could close, don't think that is intended though.

Overall a nice experience, if a bit rough around the edges.

Thank you for the honest review!

The Double Door puzzle is sound based, you have to hit the pedestals and cubes to figure out what to do. I’m glad you were still able to get through the doors, despite not being intended.

Sound-Based Puzzle Insight

You have to place the cubes on the pedestal with matching sounds.

"Nice game! It looks fantastic! and I feel that the post-apocalyptic setting doesn’t quite match the player character or the enemies—they seem more suited for a fantasy world. You have a solid game concept here, so keep pushing forward!"

Thank you. The idea was that this spike forest environment would be alien to the player. It was inspired from conceptual nuclear spike forest images, a potential nuclear waste warning sign for future civilizations, incase ours were too collapse. Because they look ominous, right. So this is way, way post post-apocalyptic.

nice game, looks really great! i mostly concur with Jorava with the added thought that the post apocalyptic world does not feel in sync with the player character nor the enemies, they look more like they belong in a fantasy world. You’ve got a great game idea here, keep at it!

Very ambitious! You've sold the desolate atmosphere really well, felt like I was in a post-apocalyptic world. Overall it's very good, the blue spikes growing out of the ground were cool. On a community post, you asked for criticism, so here:

- The combat should have more clear feedback, particularly a visual indicator that the player or the enemies are taking damage. Also more sounds, not just grunts.

- Sometimes during the fights my character didn't seem to use the spear, at least there was no animation.

- The 3 boxes puzzles was buggy, one of the boxes kept looping the sound of dropping, and nothing opened. I managed to get to the next area by climbing the rock wall above the fence and then back in between the blue spikes.

- I didn't fight the cool shrieking soul-robot thingies, but just ran from them, grabbed the box, used it to drain the water and escaped. Not sure if this was the intended way to play it.

- The last part with the snapping camera should probably not allow player to move it at all, instead just keep it always in place.

- This is nit-picky, but the final hole has floor in it, seeming like it went nowhere, giving a slight anticlimactic moment. If it had even a black texture to hide the floor, it would have been better.

PS. I played windows 1.0 version, not the 1.1 version since it's too new to be the "jam version".

This is a great comment, thank you.

Version 1.1 only fixes a couple Sound Cube related bugs that prevented the puzzle from being solved. I highly recommend you give that a try as well.

I’m relieved to read that you were able to progress beyond the 3 Sound Cube puzzle area, regardless of how you did it. :)

Interesting concept! Great work :)

Pretty interesting game. On thing that I'd like to point out is that it's very easy to climb every hill and cliff model and easily just go trough the game.

Hopefully you'll also rate mine :) https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-12/rate/2973690?after=20#post-10969722

I realize that a lot of effort has been put into the game and that there is a big idea behind it. But, unfortunately, I couldn't understand this idea because I kept dying. I was being killed by these cultists. I was missing some kind of indicator of how much health I had left.

Developer

There’s audio feedback when you receive damage.

Hee-ho. Cool game. Good job. Thanks for nice experience
