How does your game fit the theme?
you start off climbing a calm mountain, and then you invade the home of your enemies and go absolutely ham on them

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
yep, except the gun sound effect obviously lol

Very Cool!

thanks for playing :)

This is very nice! Well done!

I love the movement and the ragdoll mechanics, making it tricky to move around but very rewarding ;)

Maybe having a bullet counter to see how many time we can still shoot? Sometimes it's a bit tricky to know if we reloaded or not (depending on if we touched or not a surface). On that same topic, it could be very nice to have a bullet counter per "round", maybe a bit like a speedrunning mechanic where you need to shoot the least bullet possible and you get a higher score type of deal ^^, could be interesting.

Good job on the submission, you did a really good job at making this in 7 days, props to you ;)

thanks for the feedback, glad you enjoyed the ragdoll mechanics :]

Wow I really enjoyed this game and I'm so glad I ran into it!

I was a bit confused at first but once I understood it, wow it was great and refreshing.

Here's a list of what I loved, which is probably way too long but haha:

  • I super loved the way the guy walks - the animations for a stickman are really dynamic and amazing. I don't see this often, much less in a game jam! I spent awhile just moving my cursor around to see his hand turn 360 degrees :P
  • Loved the lighting and the fact that you gave the character a lantern that illuminates subtly. Loved the glowing windows too.
  • Really loved the mood change when you find the house. I thought it was the end of the game but wow - then the music changed and I was like... no way there's more?!
  • Loved the title too 'Steven's kinda pissed' - very unique title which you don't really get the title until you play further but you are rewarded for doing so!
  • Music and overall ambience is fantastic.
  • Loved that later on, you actually destroy things and there's physics interactions (such as the boulder)
  • Liked the particle effects on shooting and the environment props.
  • I think the pacing was also great. I never felt myself getting bored and kept wanting to push past the increasingly difficult challenges which scaled well personally.

Some improvements:

  • Instructions in-game would be helpful rather than having to read the controls outside the game, but I think you already know this!
  • I think checkpoints can be more forgiving. I'm glad that the game has them though! One ice section and a part in the house where you had to kill two baddies and then navigate through a thin column above lava. That section is brutal and could use more checkpoints in between since it's easy to quit out of frustration. But I managed to persevere and the sections after that were just pure fun!
  • A part of me wonders if the bad guys shouldn't respawn after killing them as it's easier to die from the platforming mechanics and the enemies become repetitive to kill. Might be just me though!

Great job Justin on this amazing game!

Thank you so much for all the feedback! I’m glad you liked the ambience and movement, and thank you for the suggestions— I’m working on a post-jam update right now and I hope to finish up the ending as well, hopefully with a proper boss fight. Thanks for playing :D

Really fun and I see speedrunning potential but the wobbly body gets really annoying

Developer

yah I kinda wanna lock the rotation on the torso

Submitted(+1)

cool game, like the final level and generous checkpoints. I figured out the controls by trial and error haha

The only thing that was confusing was the ammo on the ground vs the air, maybe some sort of UI indicator for amount of shots left

Nice submission

Developer

thanks for the feedback, gonna fix that ammo thingamabob right after the jam hopefully 🤞

I thought it was an original and fun concept haha, the physics work very well, and the design of the level is entertaining.
I don't know if the ending was finished or not, but I got to a part where I fell into the infinite void. but still, it was fun getting there, great job! :D

Developer(+1)

I wish I could finish the ending lol, there was supposed to be a boss fight up there 😬

haha i like it very much, it immediately makes me think of a 2d shooter version of Human Fall Flat, difficulty is good, was not frustrating to start over and over trying to get that shot right, nice job!

Developer

thanks for the feedback, glad you liked the ragdoll physic :]

Fun game. Really enjoyed it, though seeing the number of bullets left would have been nice. And also, I checked your other games. I don't know why but all of them have some visuals that remind me of someone but I can't put my finer on who :)

Hope that you'll also rate mine https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-12/rate/2973690

I don't really find that mountain calm haha, but that's a really cool game!

I really enjoyed the movement mechanics. It was pretty difficult but not so much that it isn't fun. At one point I got stuck to a wall and couldn't go anywhere, but overall, great work! Congrats and good luck!

Developer

thanks for the feedback!!

Great work! Love the ragdoll mechanics, its always super fun to play games like this. After reaching out the summit of the bandits lair, I jumped out of it and was falling for eternity. Nonetheless, very fun, art is great and the music is catchy as well! Good game

Developer

thanks for playing, glad it was fun!

I think I broke the game. One of the limbs was stuck in the wall/ceiling. But other than that really cool game!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

oooh yah I gotta fix that. thanks for the heads up

the jumping was really fun, the music was great but when i did get stuck on a a jumping section i got over annoyed by the repitition xD. Great submission!

Developer

thanks for the feedback!!

Both the calm and the storm parts were fun! The movement and killing enemies were satisfying. There were some parts which were unnecessarily frustrating due to the ragdoll physics causing Steven to move around even when he's supposed to stand still. Particularly that one part where there huge roof spikes going from right to left.

Developer(+1)

gonna try to fix that stuff asap lol, thanks for the feedback!

These stick figure games are always loads of fun. The hugging of the terrain mechanic is an original idea. Good use of physics. Nice clean graphics. Works well on mobile too, although maybe not intended. In a world where snow is made of bullets. Steven is really upset. Nicely done.

Developer

thanks for playing! :D
