How does your game fit the theme?
Fisherman's Folly is an atmospheric fishing game where your goal as the ethereal fisherman is to catch as many fishes as possible. However, your peace is not long-lasting, terrible storms plague these waters and draw out deadly creatures.
Enjoy your peace, while you can...
Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
Yes, all assets were made by the team, including Sound, Art and Code.

Incredible atmosphere! The controls felt a bit finicky at first but was able to get used to them and had fun playing :D
High quality aesthetic and absolutely incredible score by Robert Bünsow (like how?) The game design is good enough but there are some pretty notable flaws that make it not very fun to play unfortunately. I'm using a trackball which might be an issue but for the fishing minigame, I can't actually get my mouse to go up as far as the meter can go. The boat control is a bit wonky and seems to lock up during the storm. I was not able to find the lighthouse during the storm no matter how hard I looked.
Really amazing game to have been made in the week long time kudos to the team.
Thanks! <3
To answer how, maybe sounding a little blowhardy, sorry! Many years of Orchestral Music/Scoring Chops, Sibelius and DAW abilities together with some unreal scripting mastery enabled the music to come to life and some Game Jam Madness of course :)
What are you using for a DAW/orchestral instruments? Spitfire?
Sibelius ;big romantic orchestra score add extended instrumentation based on needs, perhaps saxophone quartet, accordion, rythm section, drums, bass, etc; export midi/ everything to Ableton Live(my preferred DAW), add U-he synths diva etc., phaseplant, valhalla reverb, EQ with fabfilters pro-Q and then export the whole shebang.
I have used Cubase,Sonar as DAWs before since the 90's worked with all kinds of sample libraries spitfire, project sams, berlin wdw, etc.
These sample libraries can be a lot of work both with the amount of tracks, automation with all the different articulations, and getting a good mix. Can take a lot of time, may be worth it for the added fidelity of the individual sounds, for me, time can vary up to over a month for a 20min complex(varying musical parameters) full romantic orchestra piece. Sometimes I need to recalibrate orchestration to a more mixing/mastering approach. Fitting in the sounds freq. spectrums, mixing and panning instruments.
Currently I am relying on compromising time spent vs sound quality(perhaps). Focusing more on the score. Have a good enough orchestral background(sibelius + note performer) with added synthesis / effects.
The added synthesizers/effects/reverb I like to believe are the gold packaging. Can also be the modernising / break against the old element.
This workflow has drastically improved my worktimes, enabling me to churn out pieces in one to a couple of days instead of month/s
Hope that info was helpful :)
Stunning music and visuals! It's especially impressive that you made everything yourselves. I really love how the mood and its changes are conveyed through the visuals, music, and gameplay. Well done!
Absolutely stunning visuals in this game! The atmosphere is captivating, especially with that orchestral music—it really elevates the experience. I did find the fishing controls a bit tricky, but that didn’t take away from how impressive the overall design is. Great job!
Just mesmerised by how beautiful this game is. Incredibly well done in a weeks work. The fishing controls were slightly finicky, but still. Wow.
The atmosphere was love at first sight. The music… wow didn’t expect an orchestral score on a jam. wow.
wow.
My ooooooooone slight issue is that I couldn’t enjoy it that much because it was an absolute resource hog on my honestly, not very gaming-ready Intel UHD 620. Have an 8th gen i5 and 32GB RAM, and ran it at 720p. I got like 3fps, max. I tried really hard to play it more, so unfortunately, take my review as one on art rather than gameplay.
I did manage to catch one fish, though. Not all hope was lost.
I like the fantasy spin on the fishing genre, agree with the mouse position issue stuff that other mentioned but for the rest its a really good submission!
Hey,
I love the design of the game and the sound. Especially the fantasy world setting. My daughter also liked it.
There are some issues we encountered.
The mouse went out of the game window, which was a little bit weird.
But all in all a fun little game.
Keep up the good work and good luck.
Heyyo ^^
First things first, I think its a pretty good submission and i like the change of mood as well as the death animation, very appreciated attention to detail hehe.
Also i am a fan of the chill mood and design of the environment.
The gameplay is really calming .... as long as the creatures are away :D
the only problem i encountered, was the mouse position, while trying to catch a fish.
( could also be that this is a problem only on my device, and unfortunately i cannot give feedback on how to fix it.
It may or may not be helpful to know that my screen resolution is 1920:1200, and my guess it that it has something to do with that)
all in all pretty solid!
Hee-ho. Beautiful fishing game. Cool minigame. Thanks for good experience
It's been a while since I've seen a fishing genre game
A typical fishing game is set in reality
but this game was set in a fantasy world, so it was very novel
Most of all, the art is dreamy and very beautiful
I'm looking forward to the future
Really good game. Very pleasing. Lost control of the boat a couple of times and couldn't always catch fish because the mouse was hitting the top of the screen but needed to move the mouse up. Overall, good game.
This is great! The atmosphere created with the art and music is incredible. It fits the theme perfectly, the fishing phase is calm and relaxing and then the storm is hectic while you search for the lighthouse. I wasn't sure if there was an indication that I was going towards the light house at all before I saw the light from it. Overall this is an incredible jam submission, great work!
Incredibly impressive that everything was made from scratch. Great atmosphere and good use of theme. Would have liked to have seen the fish maybe sometimes move towards the bait but overall y'all knocked it out of the park!
I really like audio and visual experience, UI is aesthetic, but not in my type
btw. something weird happens if you go to end of screen, I lost control of boat, it would be better to create some sort of invisible wall or real blockade
Actually liked the artstyle and overall lightning, like the gameplay it's understandable and great. Nice work, Good Luck!
This game is visually amazing! Music and sounds are very good and fitting also. Thematically it works, fishing phase is calm and relaxing, but at the same time little bit eerie. Mechanically there can be improvements, cause I found controlling fishing rod quite hard. Keep up good work, this game has potential!
Wow. what an amazing submission.
The visuals work to create a moody and unique atmosphere that I haven't seen in any submission so far. This works together with the music to really contrast the two phases, which is very in-theme! The main gameplay loop is simple but effective, and I found myself wanting to explore more of the world and find different types of fish.
I really hope this game gets more recognition, because you all deserve it. Well done!
I really like the visuals and the music!
Unfortunately, I am very bad at fishing games lol
Really fun game and in theme !
