aww man this is so good. super impressed with the writing, voice acting, the silly door running along the wall, the fridge's water trail, the perfect theme fit - all in such a short period of time. really captured and distilled that firewatch feel (hope you don't mind the comparison). really well done guys, gonna suggest the rest of my team give it a play :)

Awesome, love the 3D and first person design. Great drawings too

Pretty good. Interesting an different take on the theme. Perhaps some polish on the "puzzles" as I did get stuck just as your "help" - section predicted. :D

Other than that fun to see another narrative - focused entry like mine. :D Alot of horror games in this Jam :D

Submitted(+1)

wow, I don't know what to say.

The sounds are definitely 5 star quality!

apart from the graphics and the fact that the fridge is empty :D very well done! Congrats!

I hope you will polish the remaining bugs and ugliness.

The subtitle would really be a great idea!

Definately the most unique game in this jam.Probably a winner.

Very cute! I don't really know what else to say.

Developer

Thank you!! :)

I absolutely loved this one! The voice acting was sooo good! The writing was really witty, and the details of the game voice chat and the Bojack’s parody were both really funny. The whole game was also really well fit for the jam theme.

In terms of gameplay, I got stuck twice without knowing what to do next, and decided to reset the game to see if maybe it was a bug or something. But once I got pass those two situations, it was a breeze.

Something minor that I also wanted to bring up is the option to add subtitles. As a non-native English speaker, I could understand the game perfectly well, but I wished I had it as a backup in case I missed anything. I think that’d really add to the gameplay, while also making it more accesible for beginners speakers and people with hearing loss.

Lastly, I really like the message the game gives. It’s pretty healthy advice. Kudos to the team for the great job!

Thank you for playing our game and for the feedback and suggestions! We fixed some of the crashes, but there are definately still some weird bugs that only (or at least much more frequently) occur in the web player. When the rating period is over, we are planning to add subtitles and some more environmental hints to guide the player!

Developer(+1)

I’m so glad you enjoyed it (especially the Bojack/voice chat stuff, it was very fun recording that hahah), and thank you for all the compliments!! Definitely agree about the subtitles, especially since the game revolves so heavily around sound. Thanks for the feedback :)

Truly exceptional voice performance, perfectly encapsulating the essence of the game.

Developer

This is so kind of you, thank you! :)

This game was quite an experience.  Extremely imaginative and creative, especially for a game jam entry.  I was initially expecting a horror, but it took a surprising turn.  A good take on the theme.  Audio was completely flawless.  Story was highly amusing.  I particularly enjoyed the Bojack fan episode.

As for criticism, I'd say it needs a more game-like element to it, as it felt like I was watching a short film.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the kind words, they mean a lot & I'm happy you had this experience :D (especially the bojack episode, I had a lot of fun recording that lol)

Hmm yeah, I can definitely see that - I think in the attic is where it needs some game-like elements most. My buddy had an idea that we could make it into a sort of extending hallway. Anyhow, thanks for the feedback!!

I really enjoyed it. My son actually tried the game and found a 'secret room' as he said it, in the downstairs bathroom.  It's kind of funny chasing the door and fridge. I had fun playing your game. All in all, it's a nice game.

If I want to comment a bit, probably you should fix the door LOD and maybe add a center mark to know when I should be pointing my mouse at.

Developer

Thanks to you and your son for playing - I'm happy you enjoyed :) I'm glad that your son found the secret room that we very intentionally created and definitely knew to exist.

Yeah, not sure what is causing the LOD bug on the door - will look into that. And the center mark is a good idea!

Really enjoyed this! You were right. Our games do touch on some similar territory! Yours definitely reminded me of my friend's game The Static Speaks My Name and some other things - I'm assuming Stanley Parable was an inspiration as well. Loved the voice acting and the core concept too!

Thanks again for checking out Untangled. And congrats on finishing the jam!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and the kind words!! Ohh your friend's game something part of this jam or available somewhere else? I love Stanley parable- even though I can't say it was a conscious influence, I'm sure it was an indirect one. :)

Submitted(+1)

The Static Speaks My Name was originally a Ludum Dare game that was expanded. I believe it's still free on Steam if you want to check it out! Now I'm curious. What would you say your direct influences were? :) And seriously, great job with the VO!

Developer (2 edits) (+1)

Oh sweet, I’ll check it out then - thanks for letting me know about it. :) Hmm, well when we had decided on the premise of ‘a door running away from the player’, I remembered a chase scene from the end of this indie game “Gravity Bone” that I always found simple yet very fun. Otherwise, I’ve been watching BoJack Horseman lately (not yet done with it though!) - I think it’s great at showing something comedic and entertaining but then switching to a darker tone, hitting you with something ‘real’. I guess that’s what I was going for in the writing as well where it’s sorta funny that this weird door is running away from you until you slowly discover there’s a serious and personal reason for it. For the music, I was referencing BoJack and The Curse (Nathan Fielder’s new show) - they both have these interesting synth/electronic tracks that give you this ambiguous feeling, and I was looking for something similar. But yeah- those are the conscious influences, but the games I love most (What Remains of Edith Finch, The Beginner’s Guide, Stanley Parable, Dr. Langeskov, Firewatch, etc.) are all certainly indirect influences too. :)

And thank you, the VO/writing was personally my favourite part of the process. :)

Submitted(+1)

That's awesome and makes total sense! Those influences come across very strongly. Nice work! And Bojack is a fave of mine as well. Enjoy! Haven't started The Curse, but I need to.

Interesting game! However, sometimes it's not clear enough what to do to progress. Also, some of the collisions weird and I was able to get stuck behind the lying fridge

Developer

Yeah, definitely need to add a few more clues in & fix the collisions - thanks for letting us know!

Great take on the team, unfortunately trying to close doors made the game freeze.

Developer

This should be fixed in the web player (but the download link runs much smoother in general, so we recommend that) in case you wanna give it another try. Thanks for the feedback tho! :)

Submitted(+2)

Did not except that! Really fun spin on the concept and a good story! well done!

Developer

Thank you!!!

The game looks very interesting, but fore some reason it crashed multiple times so I couldn't complete it. Also you can clip through wall in the bathroom between the toilet and the washing machine
An option to adjust mouse sensitivity would be great

Developer

Thanks for the feedback!! We addressed some of the things causing crashes & added a download link (which runs more smoothly) in case you want to try again. :)

Developer

Thank you!!

Incredible! Didn't expect this but it was really fun and wholesome. I like the twist that the door is just the character's manifestation of their own thoughts. I mean the voices were clearly the same but still, it was cool.  I felt like I was playing one of those narrative games like Gone Home, a style of game that I really like.

The voice acting and editing was on point. It felt real and really well done. I enjoyed a lot running around trying to catch up to the door. The BoJack Horseman bit was hilarious, I stayed a while listening to it and I loved it!

I guess the only thing that I could say is that all of the walls being exactly the same color turned a little dizzying/disorientating.

Developer(+1)

That's a great comparison, wow, thank you (I love Gone Home)! :D Very glad you enjoyed the voice acting and the bojack bit (which was very fun to record). Hmm yeah - good to know about the walls. Hopefully putting in some actual lighting too will help.

Thanks for all the feedback :)

Submitted(+2)

This looks and sounds fun, but like a couple of other people are mentioning, the game just froze after the "it's me, god!" line, and I can't seem to get it past that! Well done with the voice acting in this though, I can feel this main character's pain

Developer

Hahah thank you!! And ahh, that's annoying. We did some bug fixes to the web player & added a download link (which we recommend) if you wanted to give it another try. :)

Submitted(+2)

the game froze when I went back to the front door. Unique idea!

Developer

Thanks! We added some bug fixes in the web player (& a download link we recommend, much smoother) in case you wanted to give it another try! :)

Really funny and interesting game. I really liked running around the house searching for the door. i accountered some bug though, door spinning, me getting trapped with the door in the bathroom, the game crashing when I clicked on the door before the exit door and some lag. If you improved the visual a little bit an changed some stuff, I am sure you could get some people to buy this

Developer

Thank you for the feedback :D There are definitely lots of bugs to address and the visuals are currently the bare minimum haha - thanks for letting us know!
