Man, those multi-coloured shutters on the Korean storefronts took me right back to Seoul... haha
I love the mood you built within the game, the environments and uncanny mix of 2D and 3D elements really added to the sense of alienation that was at the heart of the narrative. And the music was so chill but chilling (given the social isolation) that it fitted like a charm. All of that kept me happy to just walk through the environments without really knowing what was going to happen.
That said, I wasn't too fond of the cutscenes, as they were oddly framed in a way which seemed to sacrifice quite a lot of resolution, while the large inserts and text also weren't of my liking.
Furthermore I felt the UI of the titular choice was pretty underwhelming as the options hugged the sides of my screen in a really small, normal looking font. If that moment (and the central narrative as a whole) matched the quality you've got at the heart of the game it'd really be something special.
Also I felt the main character's walk was just a tiiiiny bit janky, with the front leg looking like it bends weirdly.
But all that said you've got a really clear grasp of this strong, affective formula and I can't wait to see what you'll do next!
Glad you like our efforts. We will surely work on the suggestions you provided
It reminded me of "The Last Night". Amazing graphics and great use of Bloom. This game looked like a masterpiece. I wish there was more. I think the walking part should be reduced. REst everything was great!
Glad you like it.
I liked the 2D 3D mixing, the music, maybe the walk could be faster
Glad you like it.
The graphics are really beautiful! I loved your use of lighting and the contrast between the pixelated characters and the background. It all looked super good.
If you wanted to improve, the UI all came off really small on my screen, I suggest adding some form of UI scaling to the game.
Check out my game if you get the chance!
Great atmosphere, really liked the lowkey lofi vibe it was giving off. It took a while to figure out if there was a point to the game as the walk was quite long. Great work, feel free to check out my game if you get a chance :) https://itch.io/jam/blackthornprod-game-jam-3/rate/900058
will defenetly try, thank you for playing ;b
The visuals are nice, but the amount of bloom is just too much for my taste.
Also the walking is too long. It can be this long, but something needs to happen I feel like, perhaps the main character could thinker while he is walking.
Mixing 2D and 3D gives a really interesting feel to the game :)
we will continue developing the game and will add a bloom adjust option, just for you , actually, its a great idea ;b thank you for the play!
i loved the atmosphere of the game, the voice acting and the graphics, really well made for only a week, but the walk! is really slow, is the only thing that i didn't liked ! great game, congrats!!!
This game is dripping in atmosphere. The walking was a bit too long for me, though.
The visuals were just amazing! However there could have been some improvement on the main character tho! I love the music, and initially just walking was a bit more! But overall a great effort for 7 days! Great game!
Edit: Even the voice over and the floating game title was great!
Loved the atmosphere of this game. Wished a little more happened during it. Seemed like 95% of the time I was just walking back and forth. More choices and more characters to talk to would be great. It will be interesting to see where you take this.
Really cool visuals in the walking section. The cutscenes were weirdly blurry for some reason. I liked how you boiled down the game into just one choice. I wish I felt a bit more connected to the story and character for that choice though. Solid effort.
Very nice atmosphere :P not a whole lot is happening but that also feels quite relaxing ;p good job!
Man some of the parts were really polished and others felt really "eh", my instinct told me through this game that it was rushed, let me know if it was, also huge congrats for the style, the 2d pixel art characters and 3d environments was great it's a shame that you could only walk left or right and the story was so short, definitely i will check this game out after the jam, can't wait to see what comes next.
oh another thing, why are so many hairless fat womens in the backround? wtf???
the cutscenes were really rushed, the first one was the only "completed one", its national hairless fatmanday and tallwoman and pogguy day in the game xd, thank you for the play <3
Eyy thanks for playing the game, being my first game jam it was hard for me to manage between the roles and the divided work. Moreover, we had some problems with our artists and I had to switch over to art from programming (I suck at art but somehow managed to finish it before the deadline) which ended up burdening everyone else with extra stuff and we had to rush through at some parts that we started working on in the final days. That said, we are going to continue working on the game and we'll polish it before the next release :)
Well that was a nice experience :D. The atmosphere and visuals are amazing.I loved how the game is voice acted. Of course i had to turn myself in becouse of guilt :< .This game is very charming and i can see the love you have put in it. Overall its gameplay is a bit lacking but it has too many strong points well done great work :D
Note:I would be happy if you checked out my game as well :d
thank you for the kind words! will defenetly play your game too! ;b
The atmosphere and graphics are awesome, kinda reminds me of that game The Last Night that's been teased. Great work!
Thanks a lot for the review!
Very cool game! The atmosphere is fantastic and I love the blend between pixel art and 3d models. The animation and music is very chill and fit the slow pace of the game very well.
Aside from a few minor issues mention in the comments I see, I think at the beginning, maybe some hint the player should go left would be great, I think most side-scroller like this go from left to right, so going from right to left can be very unique and make good first impression, but the walking pace is quite slow and took me a while walking just to realize I have to walk back is a little bit tedious and frustrating.
But overall, very great game! Great job!
we are currently working on fixing all these issues for a narration jam, thank you for your feedback <3, will defenetly try your game too ;b
This game has good art and story.
I like dubbed cutscenes, but you should add some subtitles.
Thank you for your feedback, We are going to continue working on the game and improve the cutscenes and add in more functionalities.
We need more games like this!
The art reminds me of (last night), it's such a cool art choice I think.
The sounds were great, the music, just amazing and I really like the tabletop RPG storytelling style of it! Really nice surprise in this gamejam!
I'm glad that you liked the art style and it was indeed inspired by the last night however i tried making it look a little more subtle than the last night. Thanks for the review ;)
