Cute idea. The music gave me anxiety tho. lol Like I loved the music and it's modulation with the changing clothes but god it felt like listening to a shepherd tone. XD Loved the art and the cute outfits. Any game with a raccoon in it gets an A+ from me! Great job. <3

thank you for playing and the great feedback! As the music speeds up it does get pretty stressful eh!? As the composer I’m curious was it a tone of the synths thing that made it uncomfortable like a shepherd tone? Or was it something else? The range maybe? No worries if you’re not sure. I really appreciate the feedback though! It was my first time writing music for a game and am always tryna learn more 🙃
Pretty sure it was the lower synths creating a dissonance with the upper melody + the fact that they change every time you click on a new outfit. Like being on a musical roller coaster. Felt incongruent. Which I'm sure is incredibly hard to make feel harmonious when modulating so much. lol I think if it was less about switching them constantly and the modes had time to settle between changes it wouldn't have hit my "flight or fight" response so hard.
BUT if you were going for anxiety than kudos it worked like a charm. lol :P It may also be a personal experience as we all have aversions to different things. My wife complains about high pitched whistles in some songs I can't even audibly process.
Those are super good observations! yes indeed the music was intended to be uncomfortable until you matched the correct two clothing pieces together at which point it became more harmonious so depending on how one was playing one could definitely get lost in the dissonance... I feel you big time.
We were trying out the idea with modes switching since it was the theme of the game jam, but if we were to continue working on this i think it would be more effective with changing instrumentation with each clothing option and keep the actual song more similar/harmonious. I think it would align with the visual aesthetic a bit more and hopefully maintain an overall more pleasant experience for the player while still keeping the music interactive. Thanks so much for taking the time to comment on all this and happy new year!
I'm going to echo the same feelings as the rest, I think that the game was a bit confusing but once i got it, I was pretty neat for sure! The art i think is the best part. I did enjoy how the music relied on the clothes. Trying to use music to convey mode was clever, something my team tried to do so we ended up pivoting so seeing someone actually do it is always nice :)
i found it a bit confusing as to what type of clothing each thing is supposed to be and what i was supposed to click on, but the art style is great
The art is so cute! I think a better tutorial may have been helpful, it took me a bit to figure it out.
Played the game a couple of times. Was confused at first but then got how to play the game. Interesting concept and I liked how the music changed based on the clothes. Great base to continue expanding the game!
The musical modes were an interesting spin! Very creative idea, though I think I might've liked a little more feedback for the gameplay. I get the desire to keep it open-ended so the player can experiment, however. Nice work!
At first I thought Mode was meant in the sense of fashion, but it was interesting to discover that the music was meant to be a central part of it! I find the concept very interesting, even if I wasn't able to really use the music to play (relying only on the visual icons), it was very interesting to hear how the music changed with the different styles. Maybe a slower game would have allowed my not-very-musically-inclined ears to participate in the experience more.
The idea definitely caught my attention and I'm sure the merging of the different music tracks must have been a non-trivial technological problem. The art assets as well are very complete and cute! Congratulations to you all and I hope you're proud!
