Welcome to AmalgamAsh's...

"Smile Game Builder Winter 2021 Game Jam!"

Let's make games, demos, experiences, proof-of-concepts, or shareable battle systems / puzzles / maps!

My goal is to continue bringing attention to the SGB engine and the communities involved, and inspire all those creators to keep working on their projects after the jam is over! If you want to participate, AWESOME! Just make sure you read the questions below to save you time!

"What can I submit?"
Your game, demo, resource pack, project file, or  proof of concept made in Smile Game Builder!

"Can I use the Unity DLC to post-process or add resources / assets to my game?"
Yes, absolutely!  Please do not submit a game ONLY made in Unity, though - make sure you started the project in Smile Game Builder!

"Can I submit a game I already published somewhere else / a long time ago? "
You can submit a game you have already published elsewhere -- if substantial new content has been added!  The goal to get NEW Smile Game Builder projects out there!

"I have a game I started a long time ago, but haven't published it anywhere yet.  Can I just finish it and submit it here?"
Technically, YES!  That means a game was submitted to the jam and not previously submitted / published elsewhere, which makes me happy!

"After or during the jam, can I publish my game somewhere else?"
Yes!  Simultaneously submitting your submission here as well as other jams  at any time during the submission window of this jam is fine!

"Can I submit a re-make or de-make of another game I've made?"
Remakes / demakes of any other project you've previously published are fine!

"Will I retain ALL of my rights to the game I submitted?  Will it still be MINE?"
YES!  Any submissions remain the property of their respective creators!  No changes to rights of any kind are implied during submission!

"Will I be able to continue working on it and submit it elsewhere as progress is made? Yes!  PLEASE DO!  If you are submitting a demo or a proof-of-concept, I would love to check out your game as it progresses!

"Can I submit an ADULT / MATURE game?"
This is fine!  Just let me know by marking it as Mature (18+) during submission!

"What are the rules?"
Read and follow the above points, but besides that, your project must be made in or for  Smile Game Builder, and you can use Unity however you see fit (but don't just submit a Unity-only made game)!  Please make sure it is a new project you haven't previously submitted, OR a new version of a project you have not shared anywhere else yet.   Do NOT use assets that you do not have permission to use - no copyright infringement!    Finally, submitting means you are allowing AmalgamAsh  to produce video content about your game on his channel in the form of "Let's Play" style videos, as well as any relevant jam compilation videos!  You could think of it as   free advertising!

"When can I submit?"
Jam submissions are open NOW and end on 11:59PM the final day of January - but you can begin creating right away.  When submitting, please note which theme below is being used -- if any!

"What's the genre?"
The games can be from ANY genre (RPG, Adventure, Survival Horror, Visual Novel, Puzzle, Etc)!  If you can make it in Smile Game Builder, anything goes.

"Who will play my game?"
AmalgamAsh will play your submission, if appropriate, in a "Let's Play" video on his YouTube channel, and promote them there as well.
Links to this jam will be posted on my own Amalgam Archive Disord as well as the SGB Discord, so anyone who finds the jam through those outlets might be playing your game.   I will also be advertising the jam on my YouTube channel, so my viewers will be aware as well.
I will be leaving the jam page up and eventually will be playing every single qualifying game submitted on my channel!  When you submit your game, if you upload it anywhere else (itch, gamejolt, etc) just let me know in the submission form and I can ensure it is linked. It will also be linked from the Athenaeum ran by CompanionWulf and also linked from Ash's AmalgamArchive, so you'll have earned a spot in SGB history!

"Is there a theme?"
There are optional, OPTIONAL, COMPLETELY OPTIONAL challenges that you can choose to take on and apply to your game!  None of these are required, they are just fun ways to get you thinking about  new projects!  Choose one, some, many, all or none!
-Make a game  using only one room!  The whole game takes place in just that room!
-Make a game that uses the mimic-cat character in a major way!
-Submit a project file with interesting map design, or event tips and tricks that others can study and use for templates!
-Submit a game that does not use the default combat system at all!  You can event your own or skip combat entirely!
-Submit a game that references the SGB community members in-game!
-Make a fighting game(!?)
-Make a dating simulator!
-Make a  game that ONLY uses  Kenney assets !
-Make a "Five-Nights"  style horror game!
-Create a horror experience!
-Make a game that celebrates the New Year!  Goodbye, 2020!
-Make a game that celebrates Christmas!
-Make  a game that has NO dialogue at all!
-Make a game that celebrates Valentine's Day!

"Can I just throw something together?"
Yes!  The submission window for this jam is large so that we have plenty of time to take out of our busy schedules.  If you need to use default assets, engine-included graphics or music, or decide not to have a battle system just to make sure you have enough time - do what you must to be able to submit!

"Will there be prizes?"
We're here to populate 2021 with fresh SGB material!

As such, there will be no grand prize this time around.  That said, every submission will receive:

-a chance to win a Steam key for Shadow Fear: Path to Insanity and all DLC!  This lengthy horror experience was made in SGB!

-a chance to win a Steam key for Project Knight! This game was made in SGB!

-An exclusive Let's Play video on AmalgamAsh's YouTube channel, which may turn into a series after all the jam submissions have been covered!

-a titled achievement and part of a compilation in an after-jam special!

-a little something extra I am working on :)

I'm submitting too, and results will be public during and after submissions -- see you there, er here!  And GOOD LUCK!⁷
