Track description | Creative process
I must say that Kenji Yamamoto's soundtrack is quite eclectic, but from what I've heard the features are: synth, a lot of sfx, synthetic and organic noises, almost no melody, very static harmony and bass, some "midi" sounding orchestral instruments.
My main reference for this track is : Chozo Artifact Temple
In the end I think my track have too many chords change, also it sounds a bit too "modern", maybe because of the synth I used, as I am not used to this type of music.
As for the Phendrana Drifts part, I tried to give a feel of wide spaces through pads and something wintery through bells arpeggios.
VST / Plugins:
Surge (synth)
TalNoiseMaker (synth)
Strings and choir from FFVII soundfont
Cinematic Synthetic Percussion
Noisetar
ConvologyXT (reverb)

Nice track :D. I gotta be honest that I still have not heard the original Phendrana Drifts track, but I think this would fit the environment very well! I wanted to join myself, but my song was just too bad to submit. Maybe next time ;)
Not sure why you are concerned this sounds too modern, this feels like it was ripped straight out of the game. The choir sound specifically is spot on. My only nitpick is there are some parts of the track that sound maybe to triumphant for the ambient mood of the original track (0:41), but that just means it plays on the way out of the area instead of the way in.
Really enjoyed this, definitely feels like it fits the era of game and mood of the level as a whole. Good work!
You captured the sound of the early 2000s Nintendo games so well with this track! I think that the ostinato synth bells over the droning bass/electronic sounds works so well to keep the ambient nature of the track that fits the Metroid Prime composition style so well. The key change at 0:41 definitely felt like a Legend of Zelda moment when it arrived, but I could certainly see this in a Metroid game as well. I think that the chord changes you made were very interesting and drove the piece forward without disrupting the ambient feel. I think you have excellent instrument choices for this both for the credibility of the track and for the general impression overall. Great work and thank you for sharing!
