⛄ About the Winter Jam

Budding game developers from the Game Programming, Game Art and Animation, and Game Design and Production departments, will come together to make games around a particular theme. Together, they will experience the joys and pains of working towards a murky and ever-changing goal over the course of the class-week.

This will be the very first iteration of this game jam conducted in a hybrid fashion. This year, both Year 1 and Year 2 students will be submitting their work to this game jam portal.

📢 What's the Theme?

The theme serves as a prompt in hopes of generating new ideas. Interpret it however you wish: make puns, take it (too) literally, design a mechanic around it or whatever else comes to mind.

📕 Rules and Regulations

Please review and follow these rules to help us keep a safe and inviting space for your fellow jammers and students.

  • If there are any students in your group that wish to work via Teams, a group call should be made with all students in that group.
  • All other in-person students should move to their assigned studio to meet with the rest of their team.
  • At the start of the day, students should go to their original classrooms for morning announcements and attendance before getting back with their teams.
  • If you wish to speak with another instructor that is in the room, please message them on Teams and they will get to you as soon as they can.
  • Upload and publish your game by the due date expressed above at the top and on the next bullet point.
  • We will plan to have the Jam end on December 15th @ 11am for Year 1 and December 17th @ 4pm for Year 2
  • After the Game Jam ends, we'll have students present their work to the rest of the school. Be prepared to present your game for about 10-15 minutes where you'll get the chance to show off your project and do a bit of Q&A in the chat.

📝 Tips and Guidelines

Here are some tips to ensure a good jamming experience.

  • Keep the scope of the project small.
  • Have an idea for the game that everyone can start working on within the first hour or two. (All the details don't need to be worked out right away)
  • Try to have something playable by lunch on Day 2.
  • Don't wait until the last second to build and submit your project! (You can always upload new builds!)
