on the top entry of this year.
Art is brilliant and length of the game is fair.
the puzzle are logic and the story give you the right tension.
Great job!

Beautiful art! As many have already said, there are some The Dig vibes that I really like. The map is a really nice touch.
I would have liked to see more puzzles in the second half of the game. I've read that what you already planned, hope you'll have time to do it!
Overall, it's a very solid game. Great job!
Finally had the time to check out this interesting entry. The puzzles are mostly not too difficult, mainly fetch-quests to repair mechanisms. This brings one nicely into the narrative and is a very well working world building. The actual short-story that gives the game its name actually starts at the end of the actual gameplay (apart from repeatedly refilling a glass and picking up an item). The short story is very well delivered and has a great emotional impact thanks to the world-building done earlier. But I still can't help but feel that it is disconnected from actual gameplay.
The pixel-art, writing and voice acting are all incredible. Very strong The Dig vibes and the map reminded me of Full Throttle. But don't get me wrong, this is no mere copy, this is very self-consciously something new and unique. The sci-fi design is somewhere between Tatooine and Dune, the colour palette just superb! Some dialog repeats a few times but this is completely understandable of course. And there's even a map. And EVERYONE knows that a map elevates an adventure game onto a completely different level! :)
Overall this was a very nice 20-30 minutes that took me far far away. And taught me to be careful what to wish for!
Fantastic game! The art and voice acting are superb. The setting is interesting.
I enjoyed the puzzles in the first half. I won't complain about a lack of puzzles in the second half because I found the story of the second to be quite captivating. The wishing on the monkey's paw was predictable, of course, but you executed it so well!
A very fun and polished entry. Great job!
Lot of effort put into this one! The backgrounds are absolutely stunning here, any the Dig comparisons are for sure complementary considering how beautiful both the backdrop art looks in that and in your game.
As a kid I used to just eat up episode after episode of the Twilight Zone. The narration and the drama in the second half were such a sweet tribute to that series. For me, I loved how the puzzle-focused beginning set up how blue collared the family really was. The modesty of the wish and the extreme consequences resonates more with me because it's in such an isolated, domestic setting. Great work!
Very stylish. Loving the Dig vibe and the story is a classic. Hoping you'll expand the interactivity of the second half a bit in a later update. What was the "good spot" on the map for?
Seemed like two games - one about moisture farming and one about consequences. Both games worth playing, so it was literally a win/win!
Definitely two distinct parts and planned that way but I wish I’d had more time to iterate and inject some puzzles/items/more stuff in the back half. But as it is I think it plays out as a fairly interesting and not too long, interactive story. Thanks for playing! I’m trying to rate all the games that comment here as well.
Wonderful atmosphere, mesmerizing story. Really enjoyed this. Loved the Twilight Zone style narration.
The art was great! Especially the detailed background art, amazing! I loved the cute little map. Super nice voice acting and good storytelling.
Thanks for playing it and the comments. The Dig vibes some up a lot and that’s likely a mixture of me being a huge fan of the game as well as people yearning for a good sci fi point and clock again (there are basically not every many especially with an old school art style?). I re-read Monkey’s Paw last year and it stuck with me. I remember seeing various adaptations on tv as a kid and they always stuck with me, so I figured it might be a good backdrop for a game.
MP really is a great story that offers so much to work with. I was wondering how you would manage the climax; I'm happy to say I was very, very nervous (but in the best way possible)! If you ever revisit this game, it would be exciting to see how you might expand upon it. There's definitely a multitude of options.
Great job with the setting and establishing the mood. It felt like maybe you were running out of time by the second half and just pushed through the bulk of the story with little interaction. The voice acting was good enough though that it kept that part interesting enough. It was a fun time.
Yeah the game feels like two things. First half is sort of a traditional PnC game and the back half ended up basically being a visual novel. I was sort of stuck as I’d sent the voice lines off so I couldn’t work in a lot of interactivity, even if I’d had time for it. For a ‘real’ game though, I’d totally have had the second half be more dense with things to do and some deeper/puzzel-y dialogue puzzles.
This has been on my list to play for a few days, and I'm so glad I made the time for it today to play it all through; it's really well polished and plays well at first; I got a little stuck but then remembered at the start you mention somethings can appear after a while. I'll certainly keep my eye out for any updates.
I was hoping you submitted this year too, since I loved Stowaway last year. The art is so beautiful and I applauded the decision of turning the last section less puzzly and more like story driven. It was a risky move haha, but it got me totally engaged. Congratulations!
Really awesome! Cute little reinterpretation of the classic 'The Monkeys' Paw' story (the reference of which could maybe me mentioned in the description, though I understand that may give some of the story away). Very well-designed for a jam entry, I only wish that the gameplay could have been a bit more fleshed out. Great job overall!
I think a lot of people don’t know the original story (younger, etc) so I sort of didn’t want to spoil it for those that did. I do credit the author in the credits. I also wish there was more puzzle depth but it’s also a jam game and I was short on time and people are usually short on time to play/rate.
Another great entry with lovely atmosphere. From a puzzle point of view the second part felt more like an interactive story than an adventure game, but I don't mean it as a critique - that's when the narrative becomes engaging, and not having to stop to think too much was a plus.
Just played your entry and loved it!
I hear ya on the second part. It was all I could do to learn PQ and execute what I had but early on as I was pulling it together I knew the back half needed some puzzles/things to do and some more hotspots. Just no time. I had to get the script off and by the time I did it was just barely there in skeleton form so I couldn’t add anything, really. Knowing what I know now I’d have added some more interactions in the second part and deepened some things to do in the first part and layered the puzzles a little more (more items and things to do to reach the goal!)
Appreciate the feedback.
The visuals are gorgeous and the voice-over is excellent. I also liked the gameplay. Had a nice Lucas Arts feel to it. If there is ever a 2.0 version with more puzzles (particularly towards the ending), I'll definitely play it. But even as it stands, it's a darn good game. Really impressive for a jam entry that has been developed with a new engine to boot.
Yes, my only regret is that I wanted 3x the puzzles in there. Pad out the front more and with more options and add a couple in the back half. But I was so busy just executing what was there the last half turned into sort of an interactive visual novel. That was interesting for me to try.
Thanks for playing. Will return the favor on your game soon.
