i loved the idea of being able to play an rpg from the monster's perspective. however, despite being tipped off in the initial instructions, this part of the game seemed the least properly filled out.

the human party had far more to properly do, despite being less interesting and could level up while the slimes couldn't even earn gp to heal from the encounters that were available.

i also encountered the bug in the silver sanctuary regardless of which path i took, so i can only evaluate the game before that point.

some ux notes: dark text on dark backgrounds is basically unreadable, but it's used for two pieces of 'key text' in the game. also the boss guardian creature forgets that he was defeated if you leave and come back.

i would have liked to see a far reduced scope, and rather than having so much stock map to explore, would prefer more interesting character interactions, and something that really sells the hook of the solid, liquid, gas, plasma system.

great effort, hope to be able to see an update!

I'd like to admit that I far overestimated my ability to manage my time schedule by the time of this jam so I, unfortunately, had to rush the game and made a lot of oversight. This was actually my first jam so I was pretty unfamiliar with how the whole thing works combined with having to attend high school. The bug and balance regarding Liquid's Party have been acknowledged and I'm pretty much already done with the update, I'm only waiting for the voting period to end so I can publish it. (or maybe I'm already allowed to, I don't really know how jams work) Thank you for your patience!

This looks like the start of a solid game!! Great visual, the characters were well done, and this felt like the start of a good game! My game crashed once I entered the giant building and encountered the other group a second time, but still this was pretty nice.

I'm trying my best to get rid of all the crash issues, but along the way, I also ended up adding several things to the game such as the Floral Squad actually being allowed to enter the shrine, so we will have to wait until the jam's voting period ends to release the updates.
Sorry for the inconvenience!

It definitely has that classic JRPG look-and-feel (and sound). I love that your team is liquid and plasma, it's so creative! Using the States of Matter as the four types is a lot of fun and really shakes it up versus the way-overdone Four Elements. The sprites are very cute, and the environments are quite detailed and nice-looking and you created a lot of maps for a short jam.

The way the combat engine works is solid, but the balance seemed off--Guard and First Aid never seemed useful and there seemed to be too much Mana and too few Technique points. For instance, in the lab experiment fight, Liquid deals 0 damage, Plasma can deal damage but has very low health, and Liquid can't guard or heal Plasma, so I don't see how that's winnable. (The flower squad seemed much better-balanced than the liquid/plasma team.)

But balance is always something you can tweak! The base game is solid and that's the most important thing.

I'll try my best to fix the balance after the rating period of the jam.

It seemed like a random battle was about to start inside a building but then it kept giving an error about failing to load images. Aside from that this game seems really well put together and it has the best dialogue I've seen in the jam so far.  Also, the music is sick, what is it?

Developer (1 edit)

Sorry for the inconvenience, I figured out that the error came from how I forgot to change the Battle BG so it keeps trying to load a background that doesn't even exist.
As for the music, every music I used came with RPG Maker MV!
