Bug: Can't wield or drop item i it seems. I'm using Linux if it matters.
I like the concept. Unfortunately I found it too easy. I don't know if I just got the knife, lifevest, and goggles to quickly. But it felt like it was easy to take out the dogs and rats. Many times I went up a level without the water coming. I got to level 40. When it did flood enough to let in fish, they proved a real threat. For a game like this you really want the water to be a big concern.
The other problem I have is that I'm clearly not on a ship. Maybe the story could be changed to an underwater research base. Otherwise you could adjust the map generation to make it look like a ship somehow.
Thanks for playing and reviewing!
Sorry about that. It’s ‘w’ to wield and ‘d’ to drop. Did you try toggling numlock? I’m on Pop!_OS and things work fine for me.
Yeah, it is pretty easy in its current state. I didn’t really have the time to do much balance, and I deliberately made it easier this time since people complained about my last 7drl being too hard. I would like to add far more aquatic enemies, the water being about to shove you around, the water becoming electrically charged, etc… And setting it on an underwater research base does make more sense. Thanks for the tips!
You misunderstand the bug I encountered. I can wield and drop most items. I can't wield or drop the item in slot 'i'.
I like the difficulty in this game. The concept of escaping a sinking ship is fun, and the feeling of panic of being chased by rising water rushing through the ship is conveyed very well. Despite some polish stuff - where the game occasionally segfaults on startup, < to ascend seemingly not being listed in the controls, no clear way to reset after a death, the game gets the fundamental fun of roguelikes right, and it does it in a unique way. The player is transported into a situation, and they must use all their available resources to react to that situation and survive. It provides that fun instantly, and that's why I enjoyed playing it.
Thanks for playing and reviewing, Sam! I appreciate you pointing out the polish issues. I think the segfaults may come from rooms being placed incorrectly. Sorry about that. I’ll head over to your game’s page and give it a try when I get a chance.
