I really liked the idea and the art style you choose. The execution of the idea though it's a bit too fast or chaotic, idk.

I think the letters come down a bit too fast imo. Also the instructions are too long, I get that there is a complex chaining of letters that give you benefits but I think you could some it up in just a few words or symbols in the game itself, or even to let the player discover it on their own.

Thanks for playing! Yeah, the letters are a bit fast, but are great for typing practice haha.

You should try playing as the mage, his letters fall at half-speed, giving you more time to focus on the words, emulates spellcasting a bit.

And thanks for the feedback on the instructions, I'll work on condensing them.

I liked the art and music a lot, and maybe I'm dumb for this but I didn't really understand how the gameplay worked, that's my fault though. Either way playing it improved my typing skills, and was a pretty solid game overall!

Hi! Thanks for playing.

So the combat gameplay is all about typing and when submitting your keys the game will add up attack and armor points. Consonants are worth 1 attack point, and vowels are worth 1 armor.

When typing, the letters will appear below your character, and hitting space/enter will submit the current text. If your texts spells out a word, you will get a multiplier for both values based on the length of the word. This is the core of the combat and dealing big damage.

You can receive new keys from treasure chests, which can be set to active or constant keys by clicking the keyboard in the top-left at the tower. Active keys are the ones that are falling down, and add to your points, where constants can be typed at any time, and aren't worth any points themselves, but they do count towards your word, so are great for forming words easier.

This game drew me in and I played it for quite a bit, which for me is always a clear sign that the game is doing something right!


I thought it was super excited when I unlocked a new letter, but I was a bit bummed out that I could only equip it as a constant, I think it would have been a nice way to add some difficulty scaling to the game if that letter joined the other letters by coming in randomly. Maybe it would make the player stronger, but also the gameplay harder?

Either way, still really enjoyed this game!

Did you try clicking on one of the active keys? When clicking an active key, if your constants aren't full, then it switches that active key to a constant, or you can disable all together.

You probably figured this out, but active keys are the ones that fall, and count towards your attack/armor when submitting a word, where constants can be used at any time but don't add to those points; however, both add towards your word and it's multiplier.

You can have a max of 5 active, and 5 constants, and any of the keys can exist as an active or constant.

I’ve seen a lot of really good bolt-genre-a’s-staple-mechanic-onto-genre-b’s-gameplay-goal in this jam and this is one of my favorite takes!

Very impressed with the presentation; the soundtrack is vibrant and the pixelart simple and solid. The keyboard options are a very clever way of combining comfort settings with the strategic depth of what you can form words out of.

My only suggestions are either minor or repeated below - I think my only unique one was that it might have been nice to see more of the tower’s ‘map’ so to speak from the main screen; I only ever saw combat nodes and the choice between the two of them didn’t seem particularly relevant, whereas if I knew when I would likely reach a different type of node… that would have fueled some more excitement I think!

Oh wow, thanks for the review! That's a good point that combat isn't super different between the choices if there are multiple combat in a set, I'll have to think about how I can make that more interesting.

And showing more of the tower is a good idea, and would let you formulate a plan.

I'm a little confused though and not sure if you also meant you had an unlucky roll and only hit combat nodes...if so, there are 2 other nodes, a treasure that can reward you with a new 'key' to use or gold, and an upgrade nodes that let you train attack, defense, or max health.

I don’t know how lucky/unlucky I was - I definitely saw the other nodes at some point, and those are a great addition, I just wish I’d been able to plan towards them - as it is, when I was starting out, I wasn’t sure if it was just combat after combat until the first treasure node showed up!

Fantastic visuals and audio design. Typing/Word games aren't really my thing, but that's obviously not going to affect my rating. Gameplay is still solid and overall it's extremely polished. Nice one!

Just tried the game out and it was really cute! If I had a kid I feel like this would be a really fun way to get them to practice typing. As for the downsides it is pretty easy, especially since I'm a programmer so I type a lot. I wouldn't say to straight up increase the difficulty but adding some difficulty options might be nice for as the player gets better at typing. The game also crashed around the 30-40th floor I believe. I was playing through the browser so it may have to do with that. 

Overall though, really cute and fun game! Just needs some fixes and maybe some difficulty options and it can shine!

I'm trying to figure out the freezing issue in the browser, it's something strange going on where it shouldn't be, have been wondering if others are facing it too. Thanks again!

It took me a while to get the hang of the movement, but overall, it was pretty fun! It would be great to have some tutorials at the beginning of the game rather than just in the description.

Fun and clever mechanic. It took me a while to realize that you have to manually submit real words with Enter (for some reason, I thought it would be automatic)

Really interesting game and well polished. Music and sfx and visual style were all cohesive and contributed to the overall vibe. I think I'd like it if the classes were differentiated a bit more, they felt similar to play. All in all a really great submission, nice work!

Thanks! i feel the same way about the classes, the mage is the one who feels the most unique with the slower letters...I'll be thinking of way to improve them and which new ones I can add.
