I love the game and think it looks good and sounds good. I could not get the swinging down for the life of me but that is more because of me.
I realy love the graphics! A game with a cute penguin should always be a great game like this. Nice game. feel free to play and rate my game too: https://itch.io/jam/-pixel-game-jam-2024/rate/2718966
Your game is shown bellow your message so you don't have to put the link.
Very neat platformer. Loved the death animation of poor Penguino. Quite fun to play. Nice entry.
Thank you so much! I've been waiting for someone to comment on the death animation for Penguino, haha I love it too! Thanks for playing :)
Cool game, liked the mechanics overall and design overall.
If there's something to add it'd be 2 things - 1st, would've liked some sort of bullet time for the throwing of the board as it was very hard to keep the mouse in line while the penguin was falling mid air. 2nd and I guess most important, I was never sure of the range of the grappling hook. Might be a good idea to have some sort of indicator there.
Still, great entry, keep it up!
Thank you for the feedback! I'd like the revisit this mechanic some time so I'll definitely keep your advice in mind when I try to improve it's feel.
Fun game with a cool grappling mechanic, I also enjoyed that you put coyote time and that the platformer's controls were pretty responsive, although the grappling took a while to get used to
Cool game and nice art! Good job! I was sure the penguin could surf on the water :D
Wow I didn't think I'd get a review from the legendary Booba! My original idea was that the penguin was going to surf on water :) Not sure how I pivoted to a grappling hook from there haha. Thanks for playing!
This game is very good
Good game and great art. I like your swing mechanic!
Mechanic takes a second to figure out, but once you get it its really fun!
Your game has a lot of potential! The art was cute, the SFX were well chosen. It all fits the style. The controls are a bit too difficult for me, but it could be a skill issue (probably). But overall, a cute little game! Great job!
Love the controls! I like games working with momentum! :)
I really enjoyed the hook (Surfboard in this game haha) mechanics, and the art is suuuper cute. I need to hug that penguin. Cool and fun game!
I am a sucker for grappling hook games and this is no different. Super fun demo, but number one change I would make immediately is the camera zoom. i could hardly ever see the jump I was trying to make with the next swing.
Its somewhat unclear how fast you need to be going for some high jumps and the spike level's beach ball to flag without swinging jump you make at the end of several difficult swings was to tightly spaced for me to see it was possible so I ended my playthrough there.
The animation done for the player sprite was impressive among the games I've played this jam. Squash and stretch, you got that down
My one major gripe is that the music doesn't fit and became annoying after a while and some sound effects for the player would do miles for the game feel.
I am very interested in grapple physics and if I ever get to work on a long term project I will be doing something with a grapple and momentum.
Great work!
Thank you so much for the detailed feedback! I'd like to revisit this mechanic sometime and I'll definitely keep your advice in mind when I work on improving the grappling mechanic.
Pretty neat! Assets are cute and the smooth animation and movement added on to it. Gameplay is pretty simple but executed nicely, and the swinging mechanic is pretty nice, but unfortunately I kindda had a hard time maneuvering it (its probably just a personal skill issue though). Nevertheless, still had fun!
Cool game, I really like the art in it. The swinging mechanic is also really interesting and fun to play around. Good job.
Very fun! The art was very cute, reminded me of Gunter from Adventure Time. This was a very smooth platformer! Everything was super responsive. Swinging around was hard to get the hang of at first, but very fun afterwards to do my best Spider Man impersonation. I especially liked when I realized that I could use my momentum to go in almost a full circle to get on top of the block I was attached to. Having that ability almost gave the game two modes: easy mode was doing the loop and landing on each block before proceeding, and hard mode was going block to block without landing.
I unfortunately did clip through the walls once when I got to the top, and wished there was a way to restart from my last checkpoint without dying, because I was unable to find any water on my side of the iron bar :*( The only real issue I found though was with it being a web build while in full screen mode. When I would try to click on platforms near the top of the screen, the browser would assume I was trying to exit full screen and would drop down that big X button, which would take my mouse out of the game just long enough that I would miss the platform and fall.
But other than those two little things, I had a ton of fun playing this game! I wasn't able to make it to the final checkpoint, because that last level (maybe last level?) with the iron death walls was diabolical! Really great job with this game!
Fun game! Really liked the music and art. Swinging also felt good, but ended up breaking the game. I fell through the world while swinging.
very nice
I've managed to go trough a wall once :)
You nailed the art style and really loved the penguin character ^^ Game idea and design were amazing, as platformers go, this can be very addicting, very fast.
Using a surfboard as a grappling hook was genius 😂
This is a fantastic platformer! I absolutely loved the penguin and its animations – it reminded me of Gunter from Adventure Time, which was a delightful touch. The number of hints provided was really helpful.
The only challenge I faced was controlling the direction to throw the board while playing on a laptop without a mouse.
Overall, it’s a wonderful game that I thoroughly enjoyed. Keep up the great work!
