ZiggyZackary rated Club Valentine

A downloadable game for Windows and Linux.
  • Gameplay

After having played for around an hour I can see how there is a lot more in store for this game. I like how the points are somewhat like tips as you play. Preform quickly and you’ll earn your pay, but take too long and it’ll come out of your pocket. If there is ever a “story/campaign” mode added where there is an actual end there could be a goal of reaching a certain threshold of cash within the end of a shift set. Taking too long and dropped drinks will be coming out of pocket. This could encourage you to avoid falling, bring drinks to the end of the stage, and please the club goers with proper drinks and the lap dance.

  • Difficulty

Like most simple arcade games it goes from simple to progressively harder. I did enjoy the first few shifts eased you into the difficulty and showed how the controls exactly worked. Having gone from the old strawberry jam to version 2 was refreshing. While it's questionable as well, I really enjoy that you can change how QTEs are handled. Personally simple QTEs are my favorite as for a fast paced action game on PC, having to take your directly over the arrow keys to quickly find each button. ( This is only a problem for me because of my flat island keyboard )

My only problem with the difficulty is that removing the ability to recover from a fall once you get to the third loop isn't a fair challenge unless the stages are designed to avoid them. I particularly had it rough on the Workers Only stage on the 3rd loop which not only had a Waitress who moved while under a low ceiling, but the next room had a puddle under an extremely low ceiling you can only dodge with a well timed jump. This puddle is also difficult in earlier loops as hitting a wall while slipping automatically ends the QTE, which is impossible on both easy and hard loops.

  • Controls

Controls are as simple as they come. Arrow keys and Space bar for selections. However, I do think it would be nice to have space bar be a jump as well so your whole hand doesn't occupy the directions and causes you to panic when trying to enter the three arrows for the slip QTE. Another area the space bar can come in handy is with the lap dance where instead of the no input section, it could be space.

I did notice going from a mash or hold input to no input is very finicky. In particular, the only way to know when you go to the next command is by looking at the rising meter which is difficult when you're timed and have a list of inputs.

  • The +18 Content

I will be honest and say I do think it would be unique to see more +18 specific stuff. Since it's already tagged for the, things could be taken a lot further with it. I could almost see things such as further time playing leads to more "unclothed" clubgoers. ( It also makes the lap dance less awkward since the clubgoers are still clothed, particularly the girls ). This could be toggled on or off if it becomes a thing and allow a "less adult" gameplay session of the game.

That being said, if more +18 content is considered a gallery mode could be fun where you played an endless version of the lapdance minigame as you see the animations without the worry of gameplay.

  • Overall

The gameplay is very fun and has a lot of potential as the game continues to be developed. My personal favorite part is how each stage is short enough to evoke a "One More Time" about each stage. If I have to give a fully proper nitpick on something I haven't mention it would probably be how the bonus game feels to long and each stage feels too short. Having the bonus games be spaced out, like a reward for serving all the character drinks, could make each game feel special. Until some ideas are considered and further looked up, it's definitely a good game as it stands.
