Emberbright rated Belong

A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

A truly enjoyable VN experience! "Short but sweet" is a cliche but in this case it's very applicable: While relatively simple and straightforward, the writing really shone, endearing the characters to the player. I enjoyed all of them, even the non-love interests, and I especially liked the positive relationship between the player character and their father; good parent-child relationships are often absent from VNs, especially where the player is concerned. I grew sincerely fond of all three potential romances over their respective routes and I felt that their problems were handled well, especially in the way that they weren't immediately "fixed" after the first watershed moment or heart-to-heart with the PC. I don't know if I could pick a favorite but at this exact moment I'd probably say Dylan... maybe. I also liked the subtle effect of the PC's flaws and played through multiple times to see the different dialogue!

The art was quality work and the number of expressions were particularly effective at conveying different emotions and making the interactions feel real; I also like how  the logo and the title screen incorporates iconography from the three LIs . The actual choices were few and at times it felt as if I were reading a kinetic novel rather than playing a VN, something I'd normally avoid, but here it worked in the game's favor as I think it streamlined the story and let the game build its narratives. The feeling I was left with after finishing all three routes was very cozy and comfortable; I could see this being something you'd play to unwind after a stressful day of your own. Completing a route felt sort of... "soothing," if you will? I think there's satisfaction in helping people with their problems, something that's sadly much more difficult in real life, but you managed to capture the ups and downs of forming new bonds with others and that's definitely something you should be commended for. I'll be on the lookout for future work from you, be it an update to Belong or something else entirely!
