I played this way back when it was a concept made for the GBJam, and playing its modern incarnation here and now: it's just as mad-cap hectic and delightful as it was back in the day, with bucketloads more polish and visual charm on top.
The dynamic colour palette keeps things fresh throughout the level, the music is catchy, the dialogue is era-appropriately corny, and the core of just zooming around a wacky cyclic battlefield whilst unloading a swarm of bullets on the oncoming enemy onslaught is still deeply satisfying.
This was well worth the wait - and the price - for full release, and I can't wait to see where things go next.
OLD REVIEW - GBJam version
Gravity madness. Mildly bullet-hellish. Infuriating saws. These are the words I'd use to describe Pixel Soldier.
It's hard (maybe not Rage Games like Geometry Dash or Thumper levels of hard, but pretty hard), but satisfying when you manage to triumph over said difficulty.
It's free, and fun, so there's really no reason not to play it.
