Hey everyone! Update 1.2 for the Visual Novel is finally out, and I wanted to chat about some of the new additions.
Unfortunately, my creative process really struggles with my lack of time for more elaborate creations. So, I'm taking that into account when I start or continue a game project. This time, I think I've managed to mold the Visual Novel into a model that's faster and more practical for adding new content and refining what's already there.
Now, let's dive into some of the new features!
In this update, I've added a quiz challenge, and honestly, I'm really happy with it – it was a blast to make! I did a bunch of research on Resident Evil fan sites and even real-world weapon sites. I quickly realized there's a lot of confusion about weapon names, given all the different models, firing types, and so on.
And hey, if you didn't know, I also have another visual novel here on itch.io, Kingfield, from the DBD universe. In that one, I managed to program a cool randomness system. My only concern is that people might lump both games together as the same, even though they're not. They do share some similar mechanics, as one kind of served as a quality test for the other.
This topic is really important to me. In Version 1.1, I had initially planned for the visual novel's story to follow Piers' diary entries about his relationship with Chris, which is more typical of a dating sim plot.
However, after giving it more thought, I realized that making the story as episodic as possible would make the production much more dynamic. After all, we know that Chris and Piers' canonical story is pretty cohesive, and there isn't much room for "what ifs," unless we avoid any other interactions they have with other Resident Evil characters.
Some parts that were removed from the previous version haven't been discarded. I believe it's very possible to turn them into more content for future updates.
Let me know what you all think about this in the comments!
That's right, we have six new CGs! In Version 1.1, I was a bit embarrassed about not including new CGs, especially since they're one of my favorite parts when I play a Bara/Gay +18 game myself. It was only at the very end of the process that I realized I'd forgotten to make some, which I hope to add to the game at a later time.
Finally, I also want to add some small details to the Visual Novel that can greatly help the player's immersion. So I thought, why not?
