Regarding Unity's (stupid) new pricing plan and changes.

Desolation
A downloadable game for Windows

It sucks. Like really, something like this was even greenlit and announced was so freaking inconceivable and out of this world they might as well just replaced the announcement with "We like money. Pay us. We don't care about you."

Now they seem to be backtracking with it, albeit with still misguided and poorly use of words and makes it seem like it's our fault we got confused. I really do hope they backtrack on this and clean this mess up. I feel for all the big and small indie devs out there.

When I first heard of this news my heart sank, of all time this could happen it's right when my career in game dev just started taking off. I consider the downloads and several youtubers playing my game a BIG success and a big source of motivation already.

But when I heard the news, I didn't even work on Desolation in that same day and just contemplated on what should I do.  At first, I thought, "I'm just a one-man team, maybe I wouldn't be affected by it in the future?" or "Maybe I would fly under the radar of this ridiculous policy?" then what if I did? Should I really hope for my game to not become successful one day in order to not be affected by this policy?

Initially what I plan to do is if I finished developing Desolation, meaning it's out of early access and all the chapters and features are present, I would release it to Steam. Also at first, I really, really considered not putting any price on it, as I know how it felt to be a student (or a person who can't afford a game) with a potato pc that saw a good game and wanted to play it but couldn't because of a price tag. But my friends and family insisted that I put one, so in the future, I plan to release the finished version to both Steam and here on Itch.io. Both are the same game, the one on itch will be free and the one on Steam will be not. Maybe a low price of $2.

But that is subject to change, maybe I'll even do a poll on here on how much it should cost because really, the main driving force of my game is just passion, nothing else. And yeah, also that thing where they say don't count your chickens before they hatch lol.

Finally, I just wanted to say that I will continue developing my game and will soldier on. And I hope Unity reverts their new out of touch policy.

And a big thank you for everyone that played my game and stay tuned for more! :)
