This Long Night

This Long Night was a passion project I started back in 2018. I had made a lot of great horror style music and was looking for a way to showcase this and incorporate it in a serious project. I had been messing around with RPG Maker MV for awhile and had some semblances of a few games made.  This Long Night started off as a game where you would explore a mansion back and forth, solving puzzles and fighting deranged enemies, like in Resident Evil or Alone in the Dark back on the PlayStation 1.  I found this format of the back-tracking loop found in games like those a little repetitive, so I decided to completely change the format to where you mostly always go forward to the next 'stage' like in classics such as Another World, Flashback, Heart of Darkness, etc.

I found this game style to be much more engaging, fresh-feeling, and aesthetically and narratively pleasing. As a result, the game continues to feel fresh as you go along, with new characters, enemies, puzzles, traps, jump scares, appearing along the way. It also allowed me to further explore the idea of the 'descent into madness', meaning that the deeper you go in the game, the more psychologically unnerving it gets!

I hope you enjoy the game as much as I enjoyed making it! And I really hope you can enjoy the completely original unique soundtrack I made for it! I worked so hard on both! I will have more games coming soon, including a more open-world story-driven game set in a Post-Apocalyptic Wasteland that is also made using RPG Maker MV. It is currently around 70% finished!
