Card Artisan 0.5.3

Card Artisan
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux

An overdue Devlog to introduce the major 0.5 version and many extra fixes and updates that were released through the past 2 weeks that mostly address bugs and similar issues.

Version 0.5 introduced the new Quest system and brought 9 new class variants with unique starter decks and fun new mechanics such as starting equipment to introduce great variety for your runs!

Below are all the changes for each version from 0.5 and up to the latest 0.5.3 version released today!

Card Artisan 0.5.3

-Reworked the save system so now progress is saved to a file instead of the registry. This allows for cloud saves and should prevent bugs where progress is lost when changing versions.

-Fixed memory leaks, improved performance, and optimized memory usage in general.

-Fixed bug where cards would need to be targeted twice in order to resolve.

-Added new mod tools that allow you to adjust the positioning of each mod image separately in-game and it also allows for additional optional settings to be assigned to each image.

-Fixed bug where playing a minion with a revival effect would highlight the opponent and the graveyard in red.

-Fixed issue where leaving a game and restarting the game would render the save unable to load unless the same mod used for that run was selected again.

-Fixed bug where counterspells limited to a card type would in some situations able to counter every card type. 

-Fixed bug where minions with On Discard effects were able to trigger off of their own effect.

-Fixed bug where effects happening in-between maintenance cost paying would cause the chain to break.

-Fixed bug where minions with 0 resistance wouldn’t trigger their On Death effects when revived.

-Fixed issue where Counterspell effects would not allow the player to keep playing cards during that phase.

-Fixed issue where Counterspell effects would not allow the player to keep playing cards during that phase.

-Improved drop from enemies to scale properly

-Adding a deck card to the deck now selects the added variant if no other copy of that same card was in the deck already.

-Added additional checks to prevent rare situations where the game would think you have more targets than you actually do have.

-Fixed bug where Vault cards wouldn’t save until you opened your vault for the first time.

-Fixed bug where the game wouldn't award you the Juggernaut quest unless the minion reached 100 attack instead of 40. Same problem was fixed with the Unlimited Mana Works quest.

-Fixed bug where Stealing the same target twice with the same card would produce weird behaviors.

-Fixed bug where if the deck editor was opened while opening deck packs and then closed while hovering some of the card pack buttons, the dimming screen would not disappear.

-Rebalanced the Gambler’s starter deck.

-Restored the ability to quickly design multiple targets from a single effect which was lost on the previous update to fix a bug. The delay now only applies when absolutely necessary.

Card Artisan 0.5.2

-Fixed bug where you would need to click the mouse button once after starting battle in order to get the cards to react properly reacting to the inputs.

-Fixed bug where a random effect creating another effect would generate an effect card with a visual error.

-Fixed a bug where relentless minions wouldn’t be able to attack when gaining control of them on a turn after they attacked.

-Fixed a card in the Gambler’s improved starter deck being able to activate its exhaust effect even when exhausted.

-Fixed a card in the Trickster’s starter deck not having an activation time set for one of its effects.

-Fixed the Pyromancer’s improved deck featuring the wrong cards.

-Reworked the three statues luck event.

-Improved the rewards in the goblin luck event.

Card Artisan 0.5.1

-Fixed bug where attacking with a minion that buffs other minions on the field would stop that effect from working.

-Fixed bug where sometimes an effect would be targeted automatically.

-Fixed bug where minions sacrificed as a cost wouldn't trigger on death & on minion is killed triggers.

-Fixed bug where quickly double-clicking a target would stop the preceding triggers from taking place.

-Improved deck shuffling logic.

-Fixed bug where sometimes a Minion would be targeted when clicking a player for a trigger effect.

-Fixed very rare issue where sometimes when playing a minion without any Summon effects would keep that minion in the hand at the same time as it is on the field.

-Fixed issue where starting a new run after finishing a previous run that had mods would display the incorrect card types.

-Rebalanced pack opening logic to slightly strengthen the effect of the Luck stat in its results.

-Added logic to improve low rolls based on luck when opening packs.

-Replaced the Paladin’s starting equipment.

-Fixed issue where minions from card packs opened on the first floor would exclusively have 0 attack.

-Buffed the Gravekeeper’s Graves, Courageous Cape, and Cushioned Clothes equipments.

Card Artisan 0.5.0

-Implemented quest system.

-Implemented run end screen.

-Implemented class variants system including 9 new variants. Variants share a class ability but have different starter decks.

Warrior variants:(Barbarian, Knight, Paladin).

Wizard variants: (Abjurer, Conjurer, Pyromancer).

Rogue variants: (Assassin, Trickster).

Adventurer variants: (Gambler).

-Implemented initial equipment system (Each class variant has a different starting equipment).

-Implemented a new defeat screen to indicate what the reason for the loss was and to allow the player to inspect the field before ending the run.

-Fixed bug where sometimes when an enemy triggered the cost payment effect of a card, the game would try to make the player pay the cost and then freeze.

-Fixed issue where if you attacked and killed your opponent before ending the battle phase, cards could trigger their “On attack” trigger without attacking during the next battle.

-Fixed bug where multiple maintenance costs that involved drawing cards would skip your turn.

-Fixed issue where repealing a minion and then immediately stealing it would break the game.

-Fixed issue with the loading game system where packs would become unopenable and some upgrades wouldn’t apply correctly.

-Fixed visual issue where some pieces of equipment featured the wrong sprite.

-Further rebalanced AI to be less powerful on lower difficulties.

-Rebalanced cost for AI cards that prevent the player from playing in an attempt to prevent virtually unwinnable positions to be created in the early turns.

-Rebalanced meta reward cards.

-Slightly rebalanced some starting decks.

-Added a stat tracker screen within the quest screen.

-Added equipment glossary & tracker.

-Added color-coated frames for every equipment rarity.

-Buffed the Warrior's Waraxe equipment.

-Added a limiter for infinite trigger loops (Cards can now only trigger 50 times per turn).

-Added checks to prevent mods from crashing the game if they don’t have enough images to properly function.

-Fixed issue where stolen minions with maintenance costs that would trigger from the graveyard as if they were still on the field.

-Fixed issue where the AI wouldn’t play Minions that had some summon effects if their field was empty.

-Fixed some misalignments in the settings menu that would cause changing skip speed to be hard to do.

-Cleaned up  the credits screen.

-Normalized volume for both combat BGMs.

The new 0.6 version is being worked on and the main focus will be mods. As you can see in version 0.5.3 I've included a new and improved image modding tool but there's more to come!
