Introduction to our friends

Mite
A browser game made in HTML5

Hey! It's been a bit over a month since the last update, and I've got a bunch of stuff done. While it's mostly technical in nature I can still make at least one thing from my misadventures entertaining here. Something else I noticed as I was writing this is that I first uploaded Mite 1.1b around 3 years ago, which is crazy. What's even crazier is that I haven't updated the game on this site for 2 years. Here's to a prototype being available at some point in the next few months* or so.

Mite has gone through a few different experimental systems for interacting with its NPCs in the hub area, the main one taking up the bulk of the time being a seemingly simple camera that moves from the player to the person you're talking with. Simple, right? Apparently not! While it worked flawlessly when interacting with the first npc, moving and talking to another made the camera accelerate at blistering speeds through the person you're supposed to be talking to, undoubtedly tearing them straight in half.

I spent a long, long time trying to figure out what the problem was and even tried implementing "camera reset" zones to fix the camera to the appropriate person if it happened to fly away, but my struggles were in vain. I ended up scrapping this camera system in favor of the easier, albeit less cool looking, method of just having a speech box above the person talking. Woo.

Speaking of people talking, why not meet some of our current cast?
