Deck Defenders
A downloadable game

As of week 12, our project is reaching the end of its development cycle. Currently, we have a working game that is playable. Although to be honest, it’s not in a perfect state as the game is quite unbalanced.

For the past few weeks, development have been focused on refining everything that we already have in place. Although some source control issue set us back for a few hours every week.

Gameplay update

Various gameplay improvement have been made to the enemies and tower. Previously, there is not much indication when the player or enemy is destroyed. Now, there is are visual and audio indication, as enemies and tower will explode when they are destroyed. An explosion accompanied by a scream was also added to the base when enemies reach it to get players attention when the base is damaged. One of the towers are also given an additional ability to slow enemies down when they are within range of the tower.

Game trailer

A game trailer have been made for the product. A script was written in class and it was decided that Shien will do the voice acting, for some reason. Julian was given the responsibility of drawing the still images for the trailer while Lucky worked on compiling the video. The product is a trailer showing the gameplay, accompanied by a horrible voice acting(except for a scream).

Levels:

All the levels have now been completed ranging from small and easy to much larger and longer. It was decided that to meet the schedule stages 1-3’s themes would be reused, though different pathways and amount of turret nodes would differ. With a fast coming deadline the levels were able to be completed on time not only that but some of the models lighting options were changed from a pillow effect to a full face effect giving off a better looking low poly feel

The 4th theme created was a volcanic lava level using dark colours contrasting against the bright red lava, the atmosphere is almost fitting for a last level as it is large and open with foreboding colours. Unfortunately after creating the levels the original plan was for these to be used as levels 5-7 but after some consideration we agreed that it made more sense to group the themes together making the level layout much different from our original concept.
