Hello Paragons!
So I've been struggling a bit with the powers aspect of Paragons - it's so far has not gotten to a form I like. However, I had an idea that I wanted to get some feedback on.
I recently purchased the Valiant Universe RPG (highly recommended), and I was pretty taken with how they do powers. Powers are a lot more freeform, and function more like PbtA tags than anything. Powers that have effects (like armor and weapons) are stated out as equipment.
I was considering doing this to Paragons. Basically, you would create a handful of powers, but only a few of them would have mechanical backing. You don't roll your powers - you would instead make a save to use them. For example, if someone had Fire Control, they wouldn't roll Fire Control to use it - they would roll Agility to manipulate the fire.
As part of this experiment, I actually created a version of Paragons that is more like World of Dungeons by John Harper which actually works FAIRLY well.
So my feedback ask is: Do you think this power mechanic is better than what exists? Or do you even think the World of Dungeons version would be better?
Let me know!
