LastA browser game made in HTML5
Finished my first game in Unity! Pretty happy with it. It’s as close as I can get to my vision with the knowledge I have at the moment.
Things I was able to do:
- Made a hole in the ground using cubes!
- Made a pathway using planes and a texture I made myself in Photoshop. I was going to make it look like little circles but I wanted to keep with the angles of the low-poly so I went with triangles instead.
- Made a funny “title” for the beginning at the suggestion of Professor Lemieux.
- Made an invisible wall around the playing field to keep people from falling off, which I didn’t know was a thing I had to worry about.
- Added some weird looking water to my well.
- Added a dilapidated mini-village to add more to the story.
- Added a Mac and Windows build to the website.
- Created animated gifs for my itch.io banner and title page.
- Added some screenshots to my itch.io page.
Problems fixed:
- Had a hard time figuring out sizing, so I made a human-sized cube and used that to size my objects to.
- My player wouldn’t fall down the hole I made, so I had to keep making it bigger. It seems there’s a minimum size before you can fall off the play area.
- I was trying to make a pond with some cylinders but it looked awful. Then I had the idea of using the well from the first cabin, changed the size, added some grass, and voila! Instant pond.
Stretch goals:
- We learned about particle systems, so I may try to add lightning bugs somewhere.
- Would like to add some music to add to the story.
- Still would like to animate the sky.
- Would like the player to be able to pick things up.
