Last night went really well as I got the basic game mechanics working. I am going to get the basic game infrastructure working today, build some more levels and then a scoring system. The laser the player uses is going to have a limited supply of energy which will add some difficulty to the game. I decided that there not be any "lives" in the game but that you will have the option to start the game over or continue. I want the high score table to only contain those people who have actually completed the game so in order to complete the game you must do it without continuing. This should bring some people back to play it a few times over.
Yesterday I mentioned that the graphics will be pretty simplistic. I am going to stick with geometric shapes, and will add a neon glowing effect.
It feels like a "space" game, so I am going to roll with that and add some stars and planets in the background with perhaps some parallax camera movement. I am not certain if I will build levels that go "beyond" the boundaries of the screen yet.
Some other ideas in no particular order.
- Shoot blue squares for power pickup
- Move the portal triggers around.
- The triggers actually power the portal so it will draw a power line to the portal when activated
- Enemies that will turn off the portal triggers
There is a playable demo right now. Go have a look.
