Update 1.1

The Inner Workings of Tetris
A browser game made in HTML5

Wow, what a week! The voting period for the jam is finally over. And you know what that means?

It's time to update it! I've addressed a lot of the feedback I've heard in the past week.

Changelog for version 1.1:

MECHANICS

  • MANUAL ROTATION!
    • The biggest issue people ran into is you can get by just by sending pieces randomly, instead of recognizing which players need which pieces. This significant change remedies that - now, the players *cannot* rotate pieces, so you must rotate them before you send them
  • IMPROVED AI
    • At the same time, the AI players did not always perform the best moves. Now, there's a new and improved AI that can survive much longer with random pieces. I used this algorithm which I found to be very smart.
  • INCREASED GARBAGE TIMER

    • Now that piece placement is significantly harder, I drastically increased the timer to drop pieces. Previously, you only ever had 6 seconds before garbage lines spawned. Now, it starts at 10 seconds. Additionally, after clearing 15 lines, a playfield's timer will slowly become shorter, to further escalate the game

ACCESSIBILITY

  • KEYBOARD CONTROLS
    • Keyboard controls are now included! Use number keys and arrows or wasd to select pieces and playfields
  • FAILED PLACEMENT FEEDBACK
    • When a piece is unable to sent, it warns you if it was because the colors matched or the previous piece was still dropping
  • PUZZLE MODE COLORS
    • The colors in puzzle mode changed to red, purple, and blue, which are more easily distinguishable
  • MOVING BACKGROUND
    • The animated background can now be toggled

The original jam version can still be downloaded from the itch page!
