Fur Quests
A downloadable game for Windows

Greetings, dungoneers, and welcome back to another Fur Quests update!

Today’s big feature is a number of new NPCs to fill out Cliffshade, along with the addition of a gambling mechanic that adds another activity in town to make money. Initially, I planned for the card game to be a lot more involved, but I don’t think it would’ve added much. So, as the deadline for the upload approached (I swear I wasn’t trying to make Monday the new update day), I stripped it down to its most basic components — something I could at least confirm worked as intended, with just a few minor details still needing polish.

This is certainly the update that benefited the most from my end-of-year deadline challenge, because honestly, I really didn’t want to release this one. I wanted the card game to be more complex. I wanted all of these fine gentlemen to actually sit down in their chairs.

And I wanted the NPCs to move around more naturally to make the village feel more alive. But ah well — that’s what this challenge is all about: making the best with what I’ve got and with what RPG Maker is capable of, without heavy modification.

With December rapidly approaching, so too is the finished state of Fur Quests — or, well, the feature-complete state. There will still be a few updates focused on polish and balancing after the new year. I’m also excited to say we’ve got a few more illustrated scenes from Fae coming next time! I’ve been working myself silly lately, and while I have a distinct memory of working on these scenes, I was shocked that during this week’s playtesting, I couldn’t find them anywhere. Did I hallucinate them? Accidentally delete them? Crash before saving? I’ll never know for sure — but at least it gives all of you a little something extra to look forward to before the holidays.

Speaking of which! With Black Friday sales coming in early this year, I’ve begun setting up a new workspace. Believe it or not, there have been times when this 12-year-old PC of mine has struggled to run RPG Maker consistently, so you can imagine how it feels about my little experiments in Unreal Engine.

Luckily, an upgrade is on the way, along with a series of tools that will help us produce higher-quality updates for all of you in the future. I think Unreal will be very rewarding to work with, though a lot more time-consuming. So instead of aiming for the biweekly build updates we have now, my goal is to provide all of you with tangible milestones in development — things like dev logs, 3D tutorials, models, and more, as we take the world of Erathor into the next dimension.

But before then, I should get back to adding those illustrated scenes! See you next time, and as always, thank you for your love and support.
