Update V0.0.33 Patch Notes and Release

StateOS: The Political Sandbox
A downloadable game for Windows

Hi everyone,

V0.0.33 is now out, although I was not able to finalize all new features in this update, here is what is new and completely working 100% in the new update and there will be a patch for V0.0.33 on November 7th. The Steam page is also now out and you can check it out here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4114080/StateOS_The_Political_Sandbox/. For EA buyers it will be 3 weeks until Steam lets me give out Steam keys for the game, so in the meantime you will have to download the new updates from Itch. Attached above are screenshots and you can check the new builds out on the Itch store page.

As for the Mac build, unfortunately even when I cross build I cannot complete the full build process for a Mac version due to the fact it requires me to own a Mac to fully sign the application. Thus the Mac application will have to wait until I get my hands on a MacOS device. It will build but refuses to sign, so as a result I will have to wait. This isn't due to me not being able to make a Mac version it is simply Apple having certain rules I must oblige to.

As for the Linux build, I will need to get around to setting up my Linux device again and building it on there. I should have a Linux build before the patch maybe.

New Features

Country Maps, Coalitions, and Party Affiliation

  • All countries in the game have country maps that also have their population data, and proper connection to the country details screen.
  • New coalition system with unique parameterized coalitions for each country.
  • Party affiliation / popularity for each country is heavily based on the coalitions of that area. There are also specific divides like the rural urban divide in the United States, the South, East, and North divide in Germany, and more. Coalitions take into consideration urbanization, specific regions, age, and education.
  • Added Canada as a new country for the demo. United States, Canada, and Japan are fully playable countries.

Coalition Editing,  Custom Events, and Saved Settings

  • Custom events can be created in the event editor or in the scenario editor.
  • Custom events can be applied to all campaigns by enabling them in the settings.
  • The custom events that have been tested and are working are news actions, spawning politicians, and adding them to elections. The rest I couldn't get to testing.
  • You can edit coalitions of each state and also each county within that state. This allows for realistic county maps so enjoy!
  • Settings are now saved along with custom events.
  • Custom events can be saved and loaded.
  • Coalition UI is not fully developed quite yet in terms of styling.

Legislation, Parliament Executive Votes, and Coalitions

  • Canada and Japan have their new legislation sections fully working. Germany is not working yet on the National level. I could not test South Korea, Great Britain, and France.
  • Parliament for Japan, Canada, and Germany will form coalition governments and also elect a Prime Minister or Chancellor. Coalition governments are formed based on the similarities in policy stances and ideologies of each party. Each party has to make a decision to form a coalition if they are a minority government.

Elections Tab UI Overhaul, New Elections, More Election Night Maps

  • The elections tab UI has received a massive overhaul. It is now much easier to navigate and understand. It uses a calendar system for listing elections, and the elections results are better UI wise but they aren't quite done yet.
  • Election history is almost implemented, but for now it is not quite there yet. You can view recent elections in the elections history tab in the elections tab.
  • New election types: Singular Transferable Vote (STV), Alternative Vote (AV), Open List PR, Panachage, Limited Vote, Double Simultaneous Vote, and GRC (Group Representation Constituency).
  • Election systems overhaul, currently the only elections that are 100% supported with the new system are SNTV, PartyListPR, MMP, FPTP, and Two Round System.
  • Added Japan, and Canada as fully functioning maps to the new election night overhaul from the last update.
  • Elections generation and datafor all 49 countries in the game (Although Great Britain is a known issue still).

Judicial Branch, Vote Predictions, and Bill Authoring UI Changes

  • The judicial branch now exists as a tab within the game.
  • Judges for the federal high court like Supreme Court are generated. Circuit courts, district courts, and state courts along with state federal high court.
  • Constitutions for the United States, Japan, and Canada.
  • Vote predictions modal works only for city council legislation for now and gives a simple tally. Will be upgraded to show who is voting for and against, plus their score, negative or positive and why.
  • Bill Authoring has been overhauled to be easier to navigate and use.

Polling UI Overhaul, Main Menu UI Overhaul, and Party Management Screen

  • The UI for polling has been overhauled and it is not 100% completed yet but it is functional and working. It shows a chart over time for each candidate. It may not work with all election types.
  • You can select the polling from different outlets for the same election and view an outlet to see what elections they have reported on.
  • There is a party management screen where like politicians you can manage, edit, and create new parties.
  • The Main Menu UI has been overhauled to show a election on the main screen and with a different layout.

City Tab UI Changes, Education UI Change,  Healthcare Overhaul, Infrastructure Overhaul, Housing Overhaul

  • City Overview UI has been changed to take up more of the screen.
  • Education tab takes up the full screen, has several different tabs and is better to use and navigate.
  • Healthcare department has been overhauled and changed a lot along with the UI.
  • Infrastructure overhaul to the department and changes with the UI.
  • Housing overhaul to the department along with the UI.
  • Note, these are UI and data changes mainly only. Although there should be new laws.
  • Note these UIs are also not completely styled so they are not completely finished.

New Laws and Upgraded Laws UI

  • New laws and policies have been introduced. Judicial, education, infrastructure, healthcare, and housing I believe. Along with other laws. Many of these laws are not completely functional yet and may show incorrect effects data like the minimum wage currently showing a huge increase in unemployment.
  • Laws UI has been upgraded for city, state, and nation.

Not Fully Implemented Features

  • Full functionality of Singular Transferable Vote (STV), Alternative Vote (AV), Open List PR, Panachage, Limited Vote, Double Simultaneous Vote, and GRC (Group Representation Constituency).
  • Nomination, vacancies, cases, and judicial retirements are not done yet.
  • Other custom event actions and types besides spawning politicians, adding them to an election, and news actions are not fully implemented.
  • Wiki is currently a bit outdated. I will need to update it in the next patch.
  • New relationship features, news relationships, party related bits with the media are not fully implemented yet.
  • Party political capital is not fully implemented or working yet.
  • No breaking news in the elections tab for major elections yet.
  • There may be issues with coalition data being properly displayed for city, state, or nation in the government overview. Due to the major coalition changes under the hood.
  • Education Tab initialization is not fully working yet. Requires the click of a button.

Known Bugs and Compromises

  • Save and load currently does not save legislation history due to the changes to the legislation system causing for now incredibly large sizes. This will be fixed. Legislation effects are saved of course.
  • There may be other save and load related bugs and errors but I didn't see them upon first glance.
  • Save and load for the United States may take quite some time due to the presidential election primary or full election and also the large amount of total elections.
  • Election results and history are currently not saved. This will be changed of course and also added to the government offices for election history of a seat.
  • Secondary dropdowns are not next to each other.
  • Committee Study stage currently does not properly clear votes for Canada, so you cannot process it in vote alert besides the live vote or skipping to the next day.
  • Germany's National legislation does not continue as it gets stuck on the new stage.

Bug fixes

  • Presidential elections do not require you to be actively viewing them anymore. They report regardless.
  • News articles will be saved along with polls.

V0.0.33 Patch 1 November 7th

The goal for the first patch is to make sure that all bugs, compromises, and features are fixed, removed, and fully implemented. I may start to do some minor changes with the UI.

V0.0.34 November 15th

This update is a UI update and also a update continuing to add on to the features provided in V0.0.33. This is due to feedback that the UI is hard to navigate and is a bit overwhelming and cluttered which I've received several feedback regarding this issue. I will also continue to stabilize the game and implement more features from V0.0.33.
