Devlog #1: Beyond Olympos

Hello everyone,

I’m aware this might sound like a classic trope. Yes, I’ve created content inspired by Greek mythology. For a Game Master looking to build a new setting, turning to mythology is perhaps one of the first ideas that comes to mind.

This is both a bad thing and a good thing. Bad, because it’s a common starting point. Good, for the exact same reason. For me, the good outweighed the bad. Sooner or later, a GM's path will likely cross with mythology. When that happens, having a ready-to-use resource like a Mythos Compendium could be incredibly useful, don't you think?

However, my goal was to do something a little different. I wanted to focus on characters who aren't in the spotlight, the ones who are a bit more on the sidelines, who don't immediately come to mind when you think of the big names like Zeus, Poseidon, Hercules, or Athena.

While thinking about this, they came to my mind: the Erinyes (the Furies). I had encountered them in Sophocles' play Oresteia, and I found them fascinating. When I decided to create mythologically-inspired content, I knew I wanted to place the Erinyes at the center of it all.

First, I designed the Erinyes themselves: Alecto, Megaera, and Tisiphone. Then, I moved on to designing characters whose paths had crossed with this trio in some way, which led to the creation of figures like Orestes, Agamemnon, and Ate. A key part of the design was the idea that they should be dangerous not only to the players but also to each other. We can see this clearly in Orestes' "Hounded" ability, for example.

The end result of all this is the adversary collection, Wrath of Fury.

So, what's next? I plan to continue in this vein. My goal is to publish a series of themed booklets, each one focusing on characters I feel are on the periphery of mythology, away from the leading roles. I want to release these bi-weekly, both to improve my design muscles and to maintain a disciplined production schedule.

The title of the next booklet isn't set yet, but I know which character it will revolve around: Bellerophon.
