Do you really want to know the upsetting truth?
Adventure
Toma says

Point & Click adventure game with a very unique art style and captivating atmosphere. It wont take you too long to play, but has some interesting walnut flavoured puzzles hidden in its seemingly simple coconut shell. I enjoyed the messages and story bits you uncover while discovering the island and am very curious where future Episodes might go and would love for them to play a bit more with genre conventions and expectations. Lovely, slightly dark and definitely worth playing. 3,5/5

Angry femme mech pilots at the end of the world.
Visual Novel
Toma says

Another visual novel that explores a short existentialist story with a very evocative presentation. You are piloting a giant mech and have stranded on a planet with your team member, talking out the last moment of your life, before the sun comes up and you inevitably will perish from your mechs explosion. Those last minutes are precious, what will you talk about? What was the meaning of your existence? It is a very well done short story and really enjoyed playing it, even if the main story bits seem a bit cliched before. The atmosphere still makes it worth checking out if you enjoy short and sweet experiences. 3,5/5

Explore the social life of a young woman whose phone you have just found.
Adventure
Toma says

This is the sequel to "A normal lost phone", that is also in the bundle. You find a phone and your curiosity gets you to poke around in its data, apps and contacts. I really like these type of games and enjoyed the tone, pacing and overall story more than in the first game. it doesnt really add anything to the formula that the first one invented however, which is a bit disappointing. Still a good and unique style of puzzle game that requires a different kind of problem solving than most other games. 3,5/5

A Rusty Lake puzzle adventure
Adventure
Toma says

Small adventure game with a unique style and theme about a guy waking up in a mental heath institution that goes through mundane tasks, while you (and him) rediscover the actions that led him to this place. I love the style, general concept and playfulness of some interactions, but the game is, intentionally, a bit bland to play. However, this game introduced me to the wider range of Rusty Lake lore games, which I absolutely need to check out at one point. 3,5/5

Small 1-player puzzle action game: Dodge, tape, and stomp boxes!
Puzzle
Toma says

Cool little highscore arcade game, that tasks you to time your traversal of a small warehouse room so you avoid the dangers, while maximizing your points with efficient jumping and scoring of high package towers. It is incredibly satisfying to pull off well and quickly evolves into a tough challenge, especially when you are trying to maximize your points. The custom game mode is a nice touch, so anybody can enjoy the game, even if there is not much more to it than the main attraction of starting it up and chasing your highest score, but that part is just wonderfully done with a satisfying combination of gameplay elements. 24.110 is my highscore, beat me! 3,5/5

Load your guns! Rain death from above!
Puzzle
Toma says

At its core its a time challenge puzzle game, in which you slide the icons into the shape of a bigger square or rectangle, which in turn you can use to charge up weapons and super attacks. I am not the biggest fan of time limitations, but the game actually made it work decently if you manage to wrap your brain around its puzzle mechanic, which will be very, very, very, very, very weird at first. It took me around 30 minutes to get into the groove of things, but once I did, it was actually also incredibly satisfying because it is a rather unique system. Once the 20 second timer runs out, you can unleash your weapons and repeat until you defeat the level. Its cute, unique, very colourful with a great artstyle and despite some weirdness in its game design, definitely worth checking out. 3,5/5

generative photography simulator
Toma says

Wonderful little tool that creates randomized worlds with vibrant colors to explore and take some pretty pictures of. The sceneries are very pretty, but could use some more visual variety. The camera filters (press F) are a great start, but a game like this could use more in depth fine tuning of camera asettings. I enjoy that they offered even a daily island mode, where everybody explores the same island and walking through this really makes it engaging to hunt for that one perfect picture on every island. Lovely idea and a ton of potential. 3,5/5

A short story experience inspired by the old point and click games.
Adventure
Toma says

Atmospheric puzzle platformer that draws you in with its great hand drawn pencil artstyle and fantastic animations. The puzzles arent particularly inventive, but its easy to get invested into the psychological situation of the main character diving in and out of his fantasy world due to its fantastic atmosphere. Its simple and you mostly do some walking in the game, but if mood and contemplation are aspects that are high on your priority list, this would definitely be worth checking out. 3,5/5

Singleplayer RTS game with procedural campaign
Strategy
Toma says

Single player tactical RTS in space with a persistent campaign. Its a bit rough around some edges, but with its RTS spin on the FTL progression formula it is a pretty unique take on the standard RTS formula, and frankly, there havent been enough of those lately. Throughout the campaign, you earn credits, buy and upgrade ships and then use the fleet you created to continue the fight. Any ship you save, you can continue using, any ship you lose is forever dead. The game can feel incredibly rewarding when positioning yourself well pays off, but it also feels like it lacks a bit of depth in other areas (base building, upgrades..). Absolutely worth playing and testing out though. 3,5/5

A short open-world platformer.
Platformer
Toma says

Retro inspired Jump & Run in a single open world. The controls are a bit sensitive and sometimes its easy to oversteer, but they are generally working rather well. The game asks you to explore and collect coins in increasingly difficult areas. What I really enjoy is that the flag/restart system basically splits up the world into smaller section that you can retry as as a challenge to get all coins. if you fail, you respawn directly in front of the section, giving it that snappy Super Meat Boy restart feel for more open world challenges. Fun hour of platforming. 3,5/5

Role Playing
Toma says

Okay so technically this is a deckbuilding build game about... literal risk & reward in Rock, Paper, Scissors. You defeat monsters by drawing cards from your deck to increase the likelihood of them choosing a particular option. More cards help you better predict the future, less cards mean more money. The art style is simple, but charming, the combat/RPG mechanics are unique, the music is good and even though it still is a bit too straightforward, small additions like new spells keep the gameplay interesting. 3,5/5

The definitive version of the classic, pixel jump-and-shoot Adventure for PC.
Platformer
Toma says

Retro inspired hardcore jump and shoot game. Despite having a health bar, you often die in a very short moment, because of how lethal all enemies are. I really like that they made a campaign structure in which secrets you find serve as permanent powerups for the rest of your campaign (doubleshot, longer shot range...), which makes exploration feel very rewarding. Its basically a remake of a 2009 flash game, which shows a bit in its design philosophies and presentation, but at its core, its simply an interesting challenge that really scratches an itch to make e want to push through, explore and continue. 3,5/5

Pixel-tastic, retro-infused, flick-screen, twin-stick-shooter.
Action
Toma says

Another hardcore retro inspired arcade game. You start off with a very basic ship, explore the levels for upgrades and try to learn how to maximize your highscore potential. It thoroughly falls into the category of games that require you to learn by making mistakes. You cant know everything, you cant always be prepared, but thats also the kind of micro level game knowledge that made some of these rock hard retro games so satisfying to pull off. The game has some design issues, namely hard to see bullets, no enemy hit indicators etc, but if you enjoy games that force you to learn their rules and level layouts, and you dont mind dying and restarting to get through it after having learned what you need to do with sort of an old school retro mindset, then you will still find this very enjoyable. 3,5/5

A paradise of self-improvement.
Role Playing
Toma says

Its a mix of a short turnbased classic JRPG and Roguelike, in which every run might present you with different weapons, which will completely change your approach to combat. The weapon based combat system (Any weapon you find will give you access to special moves) is simple but carefully balanced so you will need to judge the situation for every combat turn, giving it enough tension to keep the player engaged. The game also offers a good amount of replayability by unlocking more secrets on sequential playthroughs, giving it a particular air of mystery that really does well to pique the players curiosity. Despite seeming rather simple at first, it actually is quite the unique little game that is unlike any other game I can think of. 3,5/5

A small interactive story about about a cord.
Adventure
Toma says

More an interactive art piece than an actual game, this is a short audiovisual interactive experiment about a conductors string and the effects a single seemingly non-important action can have on the rest of the world. It is unfortunately very short, but absolutely worth checking for its subtle details and gentle auudiovisual cues if you enjoy thinking about modern art. If you do not, then you will likely hate it. I really like it, but I feel its impact is somewhat diminished because of its short length, as it feels like the artist managed to only begin exploring the boundaries of this concept. You definitely should give it a try. 3,5/5

An entirely different kind of basketball game. A narrative-driven journey told in four quarters.
Visual Novel
Toma says

Graphically simplistic visual novel that shines with a very realistic approach to its characters in its 1 hour runtime, touching on many heavier topics around personal failings, patriarchic structures, trust and sports associations. Its easy to discount the game directly after starting it up for its clumsy presentation, but once you see how the story develops its easy to feel connected through the intriguing conversation choices and honest feeling dilemmas and consequences. If you enjoy a well written character drama short story, this will be right up your alley. 3.5/5

An unusual puzzle game about crafting with a lovely atmosphere and some adorable creatures stabbing rabbits. For real.
Puzzle
Toma says

Cute and well done puzzle game in the vein of Doodle God style crafting puzzles. You have a variety of locations and need to craft items with what you are given, creating an ever more complex chain of crafting puzzles, which is simultaneously one of the biggest strengths and weaknesses. The game has over 100 puzzle recipes that are genuinely interesting to figure out with the restrictions that the game imposes on you. Due to the nature of the recipes becoming increasingly more complex and relying on older recipes, you will retread them a lot, which takes a bit away from the excitement. The UI also could use some more obvious clues, but overall, its a cute little puzzle game thats worth checking out if you enjoyed games in the crafting puzzle subgenre. 3,5/5

Hardcore gravity-bending lander game.
Action
Toma says

Now thats good take on Lunar Lander. Navigate your dropship through a series of levels by rotating properly and moving around objects with a liited set of fuel with a pleasing presentation and increasingly challenging levels that likely will take you more than a few tries to solve. You definitely need to be in the mood for a challenge for this one, but if you get into the groove of it its also oh so satsifying. 3,5/5

The new dualism in platforming
Platformer
Toma says

Jump & Run with a very interesting setting. You are a robot that lost its home due to an unfortunate incident and are on the way to request a replacement for your home with the respective agency. As you can freely stick to any surface, the level design offers unique platforming possibilities. The game has a distinct art style and seems simple enough at first, but quickly adds a new mechanic to change between two modes to avoid respective damage types. Those mechanics arent new, but the game iterates smartly on them. 3,5/5

Explore alternate dimensions, fight interdimensional criminals, and solve crimes in this thrilling action platformer!
Platformer
Toma says

There are a lot of things I like about this game. Its an action platformer with the unique premise of needing to save parallel worlds as part of an agency in charge of keeping the integrity of all parallel universes intact. The game has some well designed characters, intriguing story beats, some fun combat mechanics including a beat em up style combo system and I really wanted to see it continue. Its more on the easy side, and that coupled with its tendency for a relatively simplistic level design does detract from my enjoyment a bit however. 3,5/5

Raise your shield.
Platformer
Toma says

Action platforming highscore roguelike with ridiculous weapons and a good amount of challenges. I could barely stop playing this now, as figuring out the intricacies of the items and how to best let the enemies murder themselves was very fun. It clearly has some balancing issues and kinda gets away with it due to the roguelike nature of it, but this weird little unassuming game really makes the best of its rough edges. I will definitely take a look at the sequel coming out this month. 3,5/5

An employee training video gone wrong.
Role Playing
Toma says

Alright, stick with me here. This is a procedurally generated CRPG Pizza Simulator roguelike adventure horror game with plenty mechanics and 6 different endings to explore. You may now blink again. The dev tried something pretty unique and interesting here, which largely... and much to my surprise, actually worked out. This is a game I really need to play more of to get any decent impression, but I implore everyone to check this out, because this is probably one of the best and original RPG maker takes I've come across in a long time. Might fall down if I play more, but for now as a first impression.. 3,5/5

Fight for justice in a world where all anime genres exist at once!
Visual Novel
Play in browser
Toma says

Ace Attorney x RPG Maker adventure x minigames x visual novel. You take on a case, investigate the crime scene, talk to people and then battle it out in the court by pressing statements and showing the corresponding evidence you collected. The court sessions work as you expect them to and it has some interesting stories to tell. The minigame works nicely, but some areas of the story get dragged on a bit too much. I like the weird mix of styles and genres for its grounded and rather realistic story approach. Interesting take on the Ace Attorney formula if you liked those games. 3,5/5

Save your kingdom!
Platformer
Toma says

Super Mario Brothers 2 / Doki Doki Panic style jup & run, where you jump on and use the abilities of the enemies to navigate the surroudnings. Its a bit rough around some edges, has a bit weird controls, simplistic level design, but its absolutely worth playing and with more content and a bit more exploration of the individual ideas could be an absolutely fantastic game. 3,5/5

Heavy Bullets is a randomized FPS dungeon crawler with limited but reusable ammunition.
Shooter
Toma says

Hyperstlylized FPS roguelike, in which you only have the bullets in your clip, so you better make your shots count (and then collect your bullets from the remains of your enemies). This is by no means a bad game. Its snappy, weirdly nice to look at, offers a good sense of improvement and progression through getting to know items, and development systems and is overall fun to navigate/play. My biggest issue is that it starts to feel repetetive extremely quickly as most of the enemy types require the same type of strategy, walk slowly around a corner, check if you see enemy jump out of cover, shoot and win. Make no mistake, this game is deviously relentless and challenging, though, so it does offer a good challenge for a few hours to bite through. 3,5/5

STEP INTO THE DREAMSCAPE
Puzzle
Toma says

Interesting blend of text based adventure and 1st person exploration puzzle with an intriguing story hook. Its relativel short, but has some cool ideas that use its 2 distinct gameplay modes to its full potential. The story mentions "diving int the mind of an AI", which is a theme I dont think has been represented that well, but its definitely a short journey worth exploring. 3,5/5

👻 Wrangle endless waves of ghosts in a post-apocalyptic clean-up mission.
Action
Toma says

Super fun arcade highscore game. You float around the level catching enemies in your grapple beam, chain them up (higher chain count equals higher score) and then blow them up for maximum boomness. You can unlock higher difficulties and upgrade your character in between levels, so there is a sense of progression. I had a hard time putting it down just now, but unfortunately I dont think it would be able to keep my interest long term due to a) a low variety of powerups ingame, making it feel a bit repetetive and b) a single run taking a bit too long before it starts becoming challenging,. That leads to every run needing a few minutes before becoming really fun, but then its really hard to put down again. 3,5/5

sort your self out
Puzzle
Toma says

Smart little game, that tickled all the right places in my brain tonight. Its equal parts exploration and figuring out how the world works/can be itneracted with and puzzle game, that tasks you to place cube shapes in a combat grid, where full lines damage your opponent and and overlapping cubes damage yourself. Its a combat system/take on the Tetris formula I have never encountered before and made for some really good puzzle levels fighting more and more grotesque monstrosities. The overworld is a bit of a weak point as many rooms/enemies are a bit pointless, but this is absolutely my jam. 3,5/5
