Games: Generating Artistic Meaning Through Experience is a five-week elective course offered by the Digital + Media Department at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in 2026. The course is open to both undergraduate and graduate students.
The course is designed and taught by Annie Hu and River Wang.
This collection features games created by students over the course of five weeks, starting from scratch. For many of them, this was their first time making a game. Students come from a wide range of disciplines, including architecture, illustration, sculpture, and other non–game-related fields.
This game is a point-and-click turn-based strategy game where you manage a party of three unique fairies (Tank, Damage, Support). Every Action cost stamina, requiring the player to manage each move as they work to defeat the boss.
This is a short tech demo for a digital conversion of a board game I previously made with the same title. Expect around 2-5 minutes of play time.
Mori & Dotty is a fast 2-player competitive mini game played on one keyboard. Both players share the same small arena and have 60 seconds to score as many points as possible.

A student project for school's game engine workshop; a short, atmospheric pixel game following an elf's quest through the forest. Players are challenged to collect coins within a 2-minute timer while trying to not wake up the monster in the depths of the woods.

Road Island is a 90-second puzzle game where you place blocks onto the Rhode Island shaped map to connect white roads. By connecting roads to form closed loops, you create enclosed land areas. Each enclosed area gives you 1 point, no matter its size. Your goal is to build as many enclosed areas as possible before time runs out.
A rhythm game where you save a patient by pressing keys on-beat while handling multiple emergency tasks under time pressure.
Smatch is an experimental listening puzzle game that challenges players to interact with sound as the primary gameplay mechanic. Instead of solving visual problems, players progress by identifying audio fragments and matching them to the correct source.
