Absolutely phenomenal. I have a soft spot for horny games with intricate genre trappings a la cloud meadow, and while The Survival of Sarah Rose doesn't have any complex gameplay to speak of, I adore it all the same. Even with its many early access shortcomings, I found the art beautiful, the sex scenes amazing (especially for a visual novel), and the tone is just breathtaking. Never have I played a dark otome game quite like this. Mostly the "dark porn" subgenre is stuck on rape scenes and gorn. I found The Survival of Sarah Rose's darkly optimistic take on the genre refreshing and highly enjoyable.

That said, the game is still very much in early access. I wholeheartedly believe it is worth the $10 entrance fee, even just as it is, but here is a list of things I'm hoping to see in future updates, keeping in mind I'm not a patron and I have no idea how much of these are  already planned.

1. Proofreading for typos and awkward phrasings- not as much of a problem as I was expecting, but there are a couple scenes that would benefit from some basic proofreading.
2. Playtesting to  avoid and account for various glitches- Again, I didn't encounter any major glitches, but little things like character sprites spawning in the exact same space could be easily remedied.
3. At every branching choice the text box says "Choose", as if it isn't obvious we're at a branching choice. I found this to be slightly annoying.
4. Having transitions (into a CG, or a character sprite moving across the screen) happen automatically, instead of needing to click through them with no dialogue
5. Revamping character portraits to be more consistent- it's obvious just by looking at them that some characters had a lot more thought put into their design than others'. It would be nice to see minor characters, like Thomas or Krevel, get character art a bit more consistent with the main characters.
6. Adding variations to existing character portraits, such as facial expressions or alternate outfits- Sarah gets a few expressions and states of undress, but it's a little jarring getting to scenes like, say, her royal wedding, and having her wear the same outfit as she usually does. I'd also like to be able to see emotions on other characters' faces sometimes, especially Thomas and the love interests.
7. Customized UI- At the time of writing this the game uses the default UI that comes with Ren'Py, at least as far as I can tell. Even just a different font would go so far to making the game feel really special.
8. Additional CGs- I love the NSFW scenes, and I think the CGs that come with them are beautiful, but it would be nice to have a few more CGs for plot-important scenes. I'm also partial to seeing variations on existing CGs, to show scene progression.

These are just some ideas I had playing through the first time. Again, wonderful game, and I'm excited to see where future updates take us!

a short, creepy little game designed to make you question yourself a bit. I played the male version with voice 2 and was pleasantly surprised at how good the voice acting was, especially for a free game made for a competition. highly recommend to enjoyers of psychological horror
