To me, it seems better suited to a binary option - they either followed the rules of the Jam or they didn't.

  • Rather than let the anonymous masses decide which games followed the rules - I'd be up for letting the game float on the existing categories and presume that rule-breaker entries receive less positive attention in general.
  • As it sits now, any user giving less than full marks for this category knocks that entry back a couple of pages.

Congratulations on everyone submitting their entries. Sound off if you'd like to lend your agreement, or disagreement so this can be considered next year.

https://itch.io/t/129420/unity-problem-with-ui-text-not-visible-in-build-onlyUnity: Problem with UI Text not visible in Build only.https://itch.io/t/129420/unity-problem-with-ui-text-not-visible-in-build-onlyWed, 02 Aug 2017 02:57:30 GMTWed, 02 Aug 2017 02:57:30 GMTWed, 02 Aug 2017 02:57:30 GMTIn Unity, I'm trying to display some strings from a string[] in a UI text field. The string[] is populated with strings pulled from a JSON file. I made sure to save the file using the Unicode encoding, and use File.ReadAllText also with the Unicode encoding. I've set my text fields to display Unicode as well as have both vertical and horizontal Overflow. I even set my font's import settings from Dynamic to Unicode.

However I have a problem. I have three text fields, they all have some default, standard text in them. On pressing enter I pull the data from the JSON file. And it updates the text boxes. Pressing up and down will cycle through the strings in the array. Two of the text fields are showing a string from two arrays populated by two differnt JSON files. The third is just showing an array I populated myself by using a for loop and filling it with "No. #" + i.

In the Editor, everything works without a hitch. In the Game View everything works without a hitch. On Build, when I start the game I can see all 3 text fields with their default text. However as soon as I press enter to their text, I can no longer see them and cycling through shows nothing. I can still see my third dummy text box with the "No. #x" strings that I filled in.

This leads my to conclude somehow, probably due to encoding, the Build of the game won't show my text.

If anyone had any solutions I'd be extremely grateful as my game features a fair bit of text...

Games in need of ratings

Games with less than 10 ratings are shown. Games you've already rated, or games that have no files are not included in the list.

I also added a link to the top of the entries page. Have fun rating games!

Leaving the page and coming back do not change anything, I can keep looping rating endlessly.

Am I doing something wrong? After clicking the star I go on Save Rating but nothing changes. I even add the comment but the rating thing seems lost every time.

Any help about that?

Thanks!

Because of this I would like to know if anybody else will release his or her code and assets under a free license and what's your motivation to do so.

On the other hand I would be interested in your reasons to keep your game closed.

P.S.: I won't judge somebody nor start a flame war. I'm just curious.

While waiting for official results, I wanted to share my favorites, and try yours. We reviewed in a livestream 108 games from the gamejam. We played at all the browser playable games.

Before sharing the top 10, I wanted to say that pretty much all the games were creative and enjoyable, we made a great job in those 2 weeks.

This is our personal top 10. (There is no particular order) What do you think about it?

I would love to try your favorite games as well!

My game is in a playable state now(but still a bit short).

would it be possible to submit it now and still update it until the end of the jam?

I'd like to add more rooms to it but I'm a bit afraid to miss the deadline. If I submit now at least the current version with its 5 rooms would be available in time.

The environment is static, non-interactable and is only there for aesthetics as well as reducing eye strain for fast low resolution movement.

Is this still considered in the spirit of the jam as the game itself is 64x64? Or does the entirety of the visuals also need to fit onto a 64x64 screen?

https://itch.io/t/131636/tricky-question-about-64x64Tricky question about 64x64https://itch.io/t/131636/tricky-question-about-64x64Tue, 08 Aug 2017 21:12:45 GMTTue, 08 Aug 2017 21:12:45 GMTTue, 08 Aug 2017 21:12:45 GMTHi,

As a user of Pico-8, the perspective of using even less pixels is quite appealing :)! If I'm not wrong, there are 2 ways to make the jam on its native 128x128 resolution:

- Doubling pixel size with poke(0x5f2c,3)

- Using only 1 quarter of the screen, so 64x64 pixels, with a huge dead border around

So here's the tricky (and theoretical) question: is it allowed that the same game uses both those ways, i.e. part doubling pixels, parts using only quarter of screen? And moreover, is it allowed to use a transition between those 2 states, as if 64x64x doubled pixels were zooming out to 64x64 single pixels with border? Making it sure there are always only 64x64 pixels all long, of course.

Not sure I'll use that, but I might if it's ok.

Thanks.

I'm asking because the game I'm making for the jam is kinda hard to play with mouse and keyboard (at least right now), (it's like a twin stick shooter, but in a side-scrolling platformer, with 2 weapons, jump and run key...) so I'm worried if people will be able to play it!

Thank you for your time.

i set my window size to be 64x64 ,but when i play the game it scales out like you see in the image. I feel like it's too large for this.

my sprites are around 4x4 give or take. The environment (Walls, Platforms, and etc) are 8x8.

Obviously the art isn't anywhere near final. I intend to make a fuller version of this after the jam which could potentially be my next release after my current main title Bit Bot.

But, back to size. Is this okay ,or am i doing something wrong?

The Problem is, unity is not properly projecting it when i set the game resolution to 64x64 (pixels are not projectet properly, color blending, squers get to circles etc. etc.. If i try to do 640x640 it works perfectly. the problem is... there are to much pixels now (duh)

Is someone also working in Unity and have an idea how i can fix that?
