https://itch.io/t/695908/im-officially-starting-work-on-my-7drl-now-an-experimental-real-time-unity-projectI'm officially starting work on my 7DRL now. (an experimental real-time Unity project)https://itch.io/t/695908/im-officially-starting-work-on-my-7drl-now-an-experimental-real-time-unity-projectSat, 29 Feb 2020 16:41:46 GMTSat, 29 Feb 2020 16:41:46 GMTSat, 29 Feb 2020 16:41:46 GMTI wanted to post that I've officially started work on my project as of this moment (2020-02-29 11:30 am Saturday, Eastern Standard Time, United States), so that the start time is visible publicly for proper accountability.

It appears highly likely that this isn't actually necessary, since most participants appear to not be doing so. I figured I'd do it anyway though.

This will be my first year actually participating, although I've wanted to for years and I'm also a big fan of the Roguelike Radio podcast etc.

I'll be doing a real-time (not turn based) Unity project, although I know this is a riskier choice, but I feel like being experimental in these regards. I have a general idea of what I'm going for but I will be bringing very little existing assets and only a small amount of code from before the official 7 day challenge window. So, maybe 80%+ of the work will be purely from these 7 days. Hopefully that won't come back to bite me, but I think it should go fine. My art asset requirements aren't that much.

What I already have pre-made partly:

- some code for physics based movement that I wrote a while back

- some code for a basic PCG grid setup that I may (or may not) use to create the game

- a small bunch of sound effect audio clips that I've already prepared to be usable to fill in some basic sounds

- a very rough idea of what kind of game I'm going to make, although still a lot left to be defined

Anyway, best of luck to everyone on your projects. Happy coding/art/design/etc everyone!

I'm interested to see what people come up with. There's always some really interesting ones.

https://itch.io/t/702245/congrats-allCongrats all!https://itch.io/t/702245/congrats-allSat, 07 Mar 2020 00:56:44 GMTSat, 07 Mar 2020 00:56:44 GMTSat, 07 Mar 2020 00:56:44 GMTWell, just submitted my 7drl entry - I'm many years a developer but first time developing a game of any kind and that was a great deal harder than I thought it'd be!  My scope ended up slashed to the absolute bone from a well over ambitious start and even then it was down to the write that'd i'd have enough in to consider it a "finished game".

So, my utmost congratulations and respects to everyone who took part, both this year and in previous.  I have a new appreciation for what's involved!

So a question for everyone - during this year's challenge, what is the one thing that most caused you stress and frustration? The unexpected difficulty or challenge?

For me it was always continuing onwards.  Looking at the mess of code and seeing a dozen ways to refactor, but having to take that next step towards the next feature instead in order to have any chance of getting enough done.  It was torture every time and very much against a lifetime's training and experience.

I want experience with the Roguelike/lite genre. I will work primarily from thursday and through the weekend. That means I will make no demands to the game design whatsoever and you can consider my service as a kind of addition to your game in the late development/polishing phase. Can adapt to a variety of different styles but I would prefer to work with a fidelity higher than "command promt" visuals.

I prefer working in Unity using C# but if you work in another engine I can just deliver the asset files and you can do the implementation yourself.

Check out my portfolio here: https://antoniusmarcussen.myportfolio.com/game-design

So message me on Discord (Antonius#4916) if you need an artist.

And btw I can do composition and audio engineering too if needed!

I'm experimenting with an idea about making an RL where the focus is stealth and eavesdropping instead of combat. Spy RL.

Good luck everyone.

I was just wondering if this jam was just for rogue-likes, or are rogue-lites also allowed? I'm a sucker for Nuclear Throne and games in that vain, so I would love to do this jam if I could make a game with a similar amount of rogue as those games haha.

Thanks! c:

Recently I published initial version of my Osnowa framework on GitHub.

If you want to make a 7DRL and are somewhat familiar with Unity, but don't want to start from scratch, Osnowa can help you with stuff like tiles, turn management, field of view and ECS.

I'm offerring my support during the jam for up to developers using Osnowa (assuming you'll let me know first).

It's an early version, but with some guidance I think it may be useful (at least some parts of it).

Feel free to check out the docs on GitHub and send me a message if you're interested.
