Exciting Adventures in Clickable Space is inspired by the original Elite (1984) and runs at original GameBoy resolution (160x144). Explore a procedurally-generated galaxy of planets (or, at least, text descriptions of planets), trade between them, combat space-pirates, or be one yourself.

Got the framework of the UI working and I'm starting on the planet generation code just now.

Rogue Turret
I did the graphics in grey and white and overlay them to give a nice retro space game look.

Fastlap Clicker
I went with blue and white...Don't know why?! I thought the obvious colour would be green a white but I liked the blue and white more. Gave the zones of turns a chance to fail based on the speed of the player. This will allow the player to choose when to boost and when to say enough for now.

The idea in this game is; from a mere seed, grow your tree and spread, become a home for other life and just generally keep doing that.

This is based on an idea I had for a bigger clicker game, but it's been a while since I done a jam and I saw this one and thought I'd just do it. So I took the same idea and stripped it down. I knew I'd do pixel-art, I usually do and the theme/restriction lends itself to it.

But I also decided to do this in just Javascript, with HTML canvas... Which really doesn't like pixel-perfect drawing, especially fonts. So I have to use images for everything, which required me to write my own functions for drawing text from an image/texture atlas. I'm drawing directly onto the texture atlas and defining sprites from the coordinates by hand, not the quickest way but it's been therapeutic thus far and just means less tools to juggle. :)

I'll be adding to this the devlog daily.

But here's what I got for Day 1:

I just enter this JAM, so I'm running out of time, I think I need to do something very simple.

I like to do very simple sprites for my c1ic.mx project, those sprites can be useful here, so... I'm thinking in a simple game were you click anywhere to make the count rises... and you win medals, but... in this case this medals are upgrades so you don't need to buy anything and those medals are situations that add more click to the count.

I'll start with that.

Hello !

Here is the devlog of my project for this jam ! A small clicker game where you are a Dwarf mine manager.
Earn money to hire miners and earn more money ! $__$

Spent day one making mockup and sprites in black and white. 1bit / Monochrome art is not as easy as I was hoping, but after a couple of try I'm happy with my result

Then I looked for a good palette, I wanted something gameboy-ish but modern at the same time.

The final mockup.

Day two, I've set up in Unity everything I needed to recreate the mockup. I decided to use Unity because that's the engine I'm learning and thus the one I'm the most confident with.

Day five: the core gameplay is programmed, I can earn money by clicking on the mine (with particules, yay!) and buy miners/beers/guards/etc to earn money every second. It is a bit unbalanced though...

Day 6: Added a the feature. The player must maintain a balance between objects to get bonus (or avoid malus).

Example: Miners must have enough beer, with a ratio of 2 beer to 1 dwarf.
If they don't have enough, you get a malus from -1% to -5% of production.
If they have more than needed, you get a bonus from +1% to +5% of production.

Each items is subject to a ratio, with more complexity.
Miners, Guards and Blacksmith needs beer, light and heal.
Miners needs Guards, and Miners and Guards needs Blacksmith.
Each with a different ratio. I'm afraid that's it's going to be over-complicated... :X

My current objective is to polish the game and balance the differents values (price, ratio, bonus/malus)

Originally I had planned to having crafting and items in the game, but there's no way I'll have time to even make a dent in a system like that. Instead it'll focus on really juicy mining and an upgrade system.

After a week's worth of work, I have the mining mostly done. I'll be looking into the upgrades next, and possibly sounds and music.

https://itch.io/t/71201/how-to-train-your-snake-teach-a-neural-network-to-play-snakeHow to Train your Snake - Teach a Neural Network to play Snake!https://itch.io/t/71201/how-to-train-your-snake-teach-a-neural-network-to-play-snakeWed, 05 Apr 2017 17:53:33 GMTWed, 05 Apr 2017 17:53:33 GMTWed, 05 Apr 2017 17:53:33 GMTHey everyone,

I was just playing around with Neural Networks for the first time when I read about this Jam and immediately had the idea to make a snake game that teaches itself. I used a javascript library ( https://github.com/zefman/Brainwave/blob/master/bu... ) for the Network but the rest was done in the last 4 days.

The current version is already playable at https://bewelge.github.io/HowToTrainYourSnake/ .

I think it turned out alright. The game field is 3x3 and for each tile an input is given to the neural network (either food/ snake-body/ snake-head/ empty Field). The network has 1 hidden Layer with 10 Neurons and gives 3 Outputs (Turn Left, Turn Right or Go Straight).

In the beginning there are 4 Snake-Games. When all of the snakes have died, the two best performing snakes will continue into the new generation. The two other new snakes will be a crossing/offspring of the best performing snakes. Finally theres a chance for mutation, meaning something in the snakes brain (the neural network) will be randomly changed.

Due to this randomness some games may be significantly shorter than others but on the 3x3 grid my snakes always eventually learn to play a "perfect game" (fill the entire board).

Still planning to add:

- More options so you can configure the neural network yourself after you've unlocked everything.

- Possibility to play on larger Maps than 3x3.

- Some chiptunes for when the snakes eat :)

Let me know what you think. Especially if the upgrade-progress is too slow.

Also, I'm unsure if publishing my game here is final. That's why I put it on github first because I'm not quite done yet. Anyone know if you can edit your game after publishing/submitting it here?

So, the first game I picked was snake, and when you go to collect the food, a 'scary face' pops up. It's just some art I've pulled off of google images and re-coloured dark green. It's a place holder for something else; like maybe the game cracks open and then blacks out, transitioning into space invaders or something. I haven't gotten that far yet.

NOTE: Controlling the snake is a b****, I know. It's hard using just the mouse, but for the next few games I will make sure to make it more mouse accessible. Sometimes it doesn't register when you click, I think that's just Java screwing with me.

NOTE 2: Am looking for an artist + sound designer casually, so if you want to help, let me know!

NOTE TRES: This game is being coded from scratch in java and this first version is ~ 1 hour of work. So you need java installed.

Super pumped for this jam, and the timing couldn't be any better for me. I have been brainstorming a pretty exciting (to me at least) story-driven idle/incremental clicker game over the past few weeks, and once I saw this jam announced I realized 1-bit format would be perfect for it. I know a story in this genre of game seems odd, but I think it will actually fit well :) I want to make it at least SOMEWHAT unique, right? ;)

I'll be jumping into coding it RIGHT away (in 6 hours) and will definitely be posting updates and game progress here. To get started, I did a mockup of the title / menu screen. Can't wait to jump into this!

This crusade will reach your kingdom within 3 years ... Now you have to prepare your realm: Enhance your economy, recruit defenders, build fortifications ... But be aware that EVERY action you click on will bring the crusade closer to your doorstep!

This will basically be a Clicker-Game where you try to click as little as possible ... xP
