Just a suggestion - the timer node on the 0.8 beta has a spinning clock animation, which is pretty cool - but for me it spins too fast and it's quite distracting, especially with a long-running timer. It would be good to have an option to make it complete a rotation once a minute rather than once a second.

I've hardcoded this change on my locally compiled version of masterplan - the change is on line 1603 of contents.go:

...
if tc.Running {
    tc.StartButton.IconSrc.X = 144
    tc.TimerValue += time.Duration(globals.DeltaTime * float32(time.Second))
    tc.Pie.FillPercent += globals.DeltaTime / 60 // Change is here - just added "/ 60"
    modeGroup := int(tc.Card.Properties.Get("mode group").AsFloat())
    if tc.TimerValue > tc.MaxTime && modeGroup == 1 {
         ...

Another option would be to have it so the pie is representative of how much time is remaining for the timer - eg. if it's an hour long timer, and 15minutes has elapsed, then the pie would show 25%

Thanks!

I'm unsure if this feature is around, if there is please feel free to delete this topic, but I wanted to ask if there could be the possibility to drag and drop images, or other files, into the MasterPlan's window, getting automatically copied to another folder inside MasterPlan's main folder and that the images inside the MasterPlan's board have the path directory set to the copied file.

I request this because it's a bit of a hassle to paste pictures from either the clipboard or another folder, or changing the path directory for the images every time. At the same time, this makes it so much easier for me to carry my boards on a flash drive or the cloud without losing any of the images I need.

I'd think that an option like this could be set under settings, "Drag and dropped files to be copied to the following directory path:" and maybe a checkbox to make that dragged and dropped files use the copied files' directory path.

I think this could make the program be much more light to use, which I consider being one of the highlights of it and why I choose it over other organization tools.

Thank you

There are a lot of good features and I'm looking forward to moving over a lot of project notes from OneNote.

I have a suggestion regarding the timer trigger behaviour. Regarding the three modes toggle/set/clear, the behaviour of the toggle trigger maxing out the "numbered" card (e.g. 0/100 -> 100/100) seems to be the same as the "Set" trigger, albeit toggle also allows it to jump back down to 0/100 as well.

I feel the "Set" trigger would intuitively be better as an +1 counter for this, allowing the Numbered card counter to increment by 1 for each set time elapsed. The use-case for this would be setting a goal of "Complete 30 minutes of 'Task A' 10 Times", setting the timer to 30 minutes and attaching a Numbered card to 0 of 10.

Keep up the great work!

The original simplistic 'blocks' as per shapes of things without cut off corners just works better visually, and feels more professional, let alone they 'flow' better together. Similarly the old icons feel more fitting, not to mention the status bar being permanently embedded at the bottom is just something that made sense from the get-go. I bought the tool not too long ago from steam and I really enjoy using. But I think there are a few things that I think the tool would need for a better user experience, such as better child parent handling.

For example:

  • If you select an object, then create / add a new object. That object will automatically become a child of that selected object and the neighbors of the selected object will move down to give some room for new objects
  • If you move an object, its child objects will move as well, following it.

To be more precise about how this works:

I just bought MasterPlan as I think it is what I was looking for to better plan my projects in one place.

While the program is already great I personally would like to list some feedback and stuff I would like to see, though I am aware that they may take a lot of time or may not be feasible at all.

Stacks
- a setting where you decide how stack children are counted (all children or only the direct children) (atm if you have a stack of 1. , 1.1, 1.1.1, 1.1.2, then the top parent says there are three tasks to do (personally I would like it to only say one as it only has one direct child, which is 1.1))
- it would be cool if you could collapse and unfold stacks
       - then it would be nice if moving a collapsed stack would move all stack children with it
- right-click on a card -> create -> choose type - to create a card as a stack child of the right-clicked card at the bottom of the direct children
- the ability to put cards into stacks (and the stacks then making space by themselves)

Maps
- it would be useful if you could name maps

Organization
- put names of parents and free flowing cards in a drop down menu. A window (like the file window and the create window) which collects all the main cards (for example: I click on checkbox in the window and a list opens with all main checkboxes, clicking on the name of a checkbox pans the camera towards it). Basically a more complex search function which collects all the different cards in categories, to help users who can't find a card with the search function
- should the above function be added it could help users even further if they could add tags to cards and the window shows these tags and creates lists of the tagged main cards
- a keyboard shortcut to pan the camera to the center

Visuals
- forms for the note card to create flow charts (I saw your TO-DO list mentions something similar? to this)
- though you can experiment to understand what the tools do, tool-tips would be nice (for the map and image tools)(you could let users turn of the tool-tips in the settings
- an option to toggle shadows (from the cards) on/off
- an option to toggle highlight lines from lines on/off

Yea, that's it from me. Hope this helps somehow ^^ though I know talking is easy.

With kind regards,

Kevin

Then I could create indexes on the board, like I currently do with note tasks (I stack them together with indentation, rather than a full list on one note) I could click on the title I placed and be moved to that area of the board. It would make navigation easier on larger boards. Heck, even using the arrow tool to link areas together would be neat. Just some ideas on how to implement it.

For the current implementation, all tasks seem to be assigned a single Time Estimation that assumes every task takes equally as long as every other. However, that might not be the case for most projects.

On the other side, if I attach a Checkbox to a Timer and set that timer to, say, 3 hours - then it would be safe to assume that Checkbox should take an estimate of 3 hours. Moreover, if I attach a Numbered task to a Timer and set that timer to one hour, then the Stat Screen's time to completion can assume this Numbered task takes one hour.

Perhaps a balance might be to keep the current system but have Timers override the default Time Estimation. So if I set the Stat Screen's Time Estimation to 1 hour, that "1 hour" will only apply to tasks that don't have timers attached.

I realize this might take some work to implement, especially since Checkboxes and Numbered tasks can be attached to multiple Timers. Potentially, a rule can be established to keep everything in order, e.g.: only the first timer attached to a Checkbox counts, or something like that. There might be way better ways to achieve something like this, but I wanted to put forward my thoughts on this for now.

When making the list, I expected that the arrows would point at the notes next to them. Instead they point towards each other. (Screenshot)

I'm guessing there's some automated "neighboring item" detection that causes this, which happens to check up/down first. I assume this actually works fine in most cases. (Though maybe it shouldn't detect arrowheads? I don't know if anyone relies on that.)

To circumvent edge cases like this, it'd be nice if the Line tool also had an option to override the automatically set direction, and instead let the user specify which direction that all its arrowheads should point, regardless of whether they're next to something.

This could also help some users who need more control over graphs they make using the Line tool. (Example)

Suits my creative brain more :)

Something I like in the IDEs I use is the “minimap / outline” sidebar, which gives you a zoomed-out visual overview of the of the code which you can click on to move to the clicked point. E.g., see: https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/getstarted/userinterface#_minimap

The point of this, if not familiar, is not to be a legible thing that you can read, but more to give you a recognisable map of the “shape” of the code. I think this would be a really nice addition to MasterPlan, as the layout of the plans are quite personal, and even a small minimap would give you the ability to quickly recognise distinct parts of your plan which you could click on to immediately pan to them.

The only method to display that extra information is to open the Edit window. To  reduce the number of steps, maybe temporarily expand the Task (without changing collision with other Tasks) on solo selection/hover instead?

https://itch.io/t/1007688/mac-use-command-instead-of-controlMac: Use Command instead of Controlhttps://itch.io/t/1007688/mac-use-command-instead-of-controlThu, 08 Oct 2020 11:49:07 GMTThu, 08 Oct 2020 11:49:07 GMTThu, 08 Oct 2020 11:49:07 GMTHey Solar,

So I noticed you're using Ctrl for many of the modifiers for the shortcut keys in MasterPlan. The problem is that Ctrl on a Mac has different utility than it does on Windows or Linux. Ctrl + Up for example, does not work for me to move tasks because on Mac that's bindded to seeing all open apps. Macs use Command as the main shortcut modifiers. On many apps it's used for Saving (Command + S), it's used for Opening (Command + O) and it's used to select multiple files (Command + Click).  So I think it kind of makes sense to use Command instead of Control, for the shortcuts.

For Apps, it's very typical to have an "if" statement somewhere that uses Commands instead on Control when on a Mac.

Even better would be to allow for keyboard short-cut remapping but that's up to you. I'm cool with the keyboard shortcut setup, I'd just like to use Command instead of Control lol

PS: I started to use MasterPlan recently since it seemed more feature complete after the Maps update, and I'm really enjoying it so far! There's a few QoL things that are missing for me though, like better trackpad support (I know, ew, but zooming is hard in MasterPlan with one, and sometimes the 1-5 numbers don't cut it), and being able to word wrap notes...

This might also be a stretch, but support for Japanese (and CJK in general I suppose) and IME input would be nice as well.

* The frame rate drops incredibly when using the scroll box to scroll the text box. This doesn't occur when using the mouse wheel though

* the generated note block can become incredibly huge. The ability to scale the block and have the text wrap automatically would be a nice to have.

Currently, it feels like opening a new window, some kind of modal shift in the program, because it's almost fullscreen. Since none of the editing GUI takes up the full dialog and there's a lot of empty space, it would make it feel much more "inline" if it were a smaller window.

https://itch.io/t/933874/4k-support-ui-scaling-other-suggestions4K support - UI scaling - other suggestionshttps://itch.io/t/933874/4k-support-ui-scaling-other-suggestionsWed, 19 Aug 2020 18:11:47 GMTWed, 19 Aug 2020 18:11:47 GMTWed, 19 Aug 2020 18:11:47 GMTI bought Masterplan today. Wonderful software! It works perfectly on my 2560x1440 screen. The problem is that my 3840x2160 4K screen is my main screen, and the UI doesn't scale properly. Take a look:

https://d.pr/i/MF0l5F

The bottom text doesn't scale properly, the text in the (admittedly massive) dialog boxes for the to-do's doesn't scale well either:

https://d.pr/i/0bfNOY

So having that fixed would be really cool. Just a UI scaling option in the settings would be enough, really, just like Windows.

A few other suggestions:

- Smaller dialog boxes for tasks

- Change  "checkbox" task name to simply say "to-do", since that fits better and is far less confusing for the UX

- More in-depth customization of the program (shortcuts, UI scaling, colors)

- Actual installer delivered (rn it's just an exe)

- Start where you left off

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need any further clarification.

My only suggestion being: Allow text be copied and pasted in and out of MasterPlan.

Haven't found this mentioned anywhere else or if clipboard is meant to be working with MasterPlan (I have been using it on Ubuntu).

Thanks.

Edit: I noticed finally there is paste content option in the menu but it fails to paste plain text into a task, doesn't appear in the log or running the software from the terminal the exact reason for this failure. Never the less, being able use clipboard keyboard shortcuts would be the best solution for this.

The software is excellent, so thank you for making this. If I could request a feature; currently tasks are grouped (and therefore progression behaviour by extension) when they are stacked. I think this is fine as default behaviour but I was wondering if it might be possible to link tasks that are not physically near one another.

Something like the following was what I had in mind:

Happy to clarify further if needs be.

Thanks again :)

- atm dragging a .plan file into a MasterPlan window creates an empty task and gives the .plan file a .json extension, I would like to suggest making this open the .plan file instead.

This also goes for the cursor moving speed with the left/right arrow keys.
