Cover by Devine Lu Linvega

Picked this cover because I'm intrigued what a potential game featuring this would be like. So why not make it? I'm quite busy these past few days but I figured I could put a little time in and show off realllyyyyy early progress.

Straight up I'm gonna try and match the color scheming as best I can and go for a very manga-esque Blame! look. I'm thinking of going for a very moody topdown adventure game where you don't do much athletic stuff or combat, more figuring out stuff and exploring really strange environments. This is really sketchy pixel art here though and I'm just figuring out possible lighting conditions like cloud shadows changing the sprite etc.

I also mocked up a 3D render and just jammed random geometry together to make a more crowded scene, figure out potential space and layered elements. There's no rhyme or reason to the outer edges of the screen but you can sort of imagine very bizzare architecture from it. Idk I'm just using it for a noise guide for now.

This is more test art but I think I'm getting closer to how the architecture will render (still not too sure about dithering). But basically mock up a 3D render, use it as a guide to lay in some foundation, then go hog wild on the details. Part of me really wants to retain some of the sketchyness as I think that feels more inline with the cover. So I need to be careful not to go too perfect with the 3D forms or get too perfect with the pixel lines (this is an elaborate excuse just to rush the art more). I've dabbled in this sort of method before but this will be a test to see if it can be efficient. I may even just use 3D renders as placeholders when I need to make progress elsewhere.

This weekend I'll likely report back with some art placed in and some actual in-engine stuff.

The cover actually feels like the inverse of another game I did recently 'Vicious' and is a really good opportunity to do the reverse of its theme of nihilism.

The main focus will be narrative over gameplay, but the world will have a tight puzzle box set up with minor survival horror elements. You're mostly looking for fragments of your  memories in order to come to terms with your own death and existentialist dread, while simultaneously being chased by the metaphor monster which represents ___________   ...no spoilers.

at the moment the player has floating movement for navigation, and one of the first upgrades will be a familiar that can attack and move separately from you to reach places you can't

I'm working inPico-8 which I think fits nicely to the NES cartridges of the Famicase.

I've been working for 18 days on the project so far. I've been streaming pretty much every minute of it:

Here is the full playlist.

The game itself is a mix between a match-3 type puzzle game and solitaire. It has with some unique mechanics.

Players draw cards from a deck. The cards represent orders. Players need to fulfill the orders by finding correct sequences of pastries on the board - either verically or horizontally. Once an order is fulfilled the card is discarded an a new card is drawn from the deck. The game is over when all orders from the deck have been fulfilled.

At the end of each level players gain coins.

The coins can be spent to purchase recipies for other pastries.

There will be 16 pastries in the game.

Each pastry comes with its own special ability card which can be used to get out of tricky situations.

I've contacted Louis, the arist behind the cartridge and he seems to be pretty hyped about the project.

The progress was really great so far. Currenty creating the final art on some of the card abilities and making the menu more pretty. The game should be out by beginning next week!

Mai-chan's SWEET BUNS
Louis/Web developer & comic artist
In this deliciously tricky puzzle game, you must grab Mai-chan's SWEET BUNS to stop them falling into the wrong hands! The nefarious RAT KING and his dastardly râtisserie will stop at nothing to ensure the world only eats nasty SAVOURY BUNS!

Picking this one was a no-brainer. I already knew I wanted to make an  action-puzzler, and the artwork on this cartridge is stellar.

Three days (keeping a comfortable pace) in and it's almost something playable (although the  graphics don't really do the cartridge justice quite jet).

The game is written in Elm, a  purely functional language that more game developers should try out.

We're writing Outrun, a game inspired by Rushing Drive, the amazing cover by Philip Summers.

And it's a table-top RPG.

And it's solo.

Our first devlog is on our blog. I'll be posting updates twice a week, so watch this space.

I had so much fun building Rusty Blade last year for AGBIC jam 2017, it's great to be back again!

If you're a music composer and into outrun synth music, and you'd like to contribute to the project, please let us know. We're planning something special.

I picked this case mainly because I liked the concept around it. It seemed like it would fit a very relaxing kind of game play along with having a lovely aesthetic.

I'm hoping to keep with a similar style to that of the case and I'm hoping to have something relatively polished by the end of this.

Updates will generally be every few days depending on how much time gets put into the game.

First time participating in AGBIC. I only jammed once before (LD34) and I don't have a lot of time to go for it but when I saw this was some kind of more relaxed version of a jam I decided to give it a shot. Also, I love the idea of being inspired by the famicase exhibition!

I picked up this one cartridge by Samuel Boucher:

"Team up with your unconscious mind to find your way out of a dream that trapped you in. Will you ever wake up?"

I started around three days ago so many of the core aspects are almost ready but I'm sure I can use the full month to implement some of the most time-consuming tasks. Here's a picture of the (always needed!) whiteboard brainstorming:

And some videos, because images alone are boring:   ok so apparently something's up with the videos I posted on indiedb and I can't embed them in this post so here's some images instead:

I'm normally posting this kind of short videos of the progress on tumblr but I'll keep this page up to date whenever I reach some major milestone.

Thanks for reading and have a good time!

I really liked this girl so I decided to go with this. It'll be a short RPG Maker game with a few fancy battles. For now, I already made the first map and the first battle.

There are a lot of things to be done, I hope I can make them in time.

Kiss a Bear

I'd like to start by asking that, if someone has found a way to contact the designer, please tell me how because I can't find him anywhere! Thanks!

Like I did with my (completely unfinished) submission for the last edition of this jam, I will be focusing on making a game as close to the style of the cartridge as possible since I think that's the most interesting way of approaching these ideas. :) I will also base myself a lot on the description of the game:

Super T-Rex Ultra Fuji Defender is an arcade game in which the main character, Super T-Rex, is the protector of Mount Fuji. In the game you will defend the mountain against the attacks of evil invaders. At the end of each level you will fight with a mighty Boss. Let's defend Mount Fuji from ancient evil!

Cute, right? That's what I am aiming for as well! So without further ado, here are our characters:

T-Rex:

Our cute little fella is going to save Mount Fuji from some nasty enemies only using its mighty roar and your help!

Mount Fuji

Here is the big (and cute) Mount Fuji, our mount in distress, hoping its friend protects it from all the evil-doers!

This game will be a side-scroller with super simple controls, accessible for everyone to play and have a good time with!

So this is it for Update #1! Keep checking this thread for more news!

I'm going to attempt making a very simple Smash TV clone (probably just a single level) out of this cart:

The idea is to have WASD+mouse controls initially, but also support twin sticks if available. I'm thinking the core gameplay will be to just survive as long as possible.

I'll try to post daily updates here.

Goodbye Internet!
