All of the folders that have been added play a part, and if you want to temporarily take one out of the equation you have to remove it or ignore it.

I would like to have more bases to keep things tidy, but I can imagine that if I asked to implement something like this, the UI would gain a new element with a slightly different or confusing design, people would definitely want or need to reorganize their folder structure, you would have to work more, etc.

So I had this idea, which doesn't require any new interface changes: a folder focus.

When you focus a folder, all of the other folders that aren't its subfolders are greyed out or removed from the view, and all the tags and categories not found in that folder go away too. (You could also choose in the settings if you want the function to focus on one folder only at a time, like a toggle, or the more you manually select).

This means you could have a Worldbuilding folder for your fantasy stories and a Blog folder like in my mockup coexist better by not having their contrasting tags – like "Vacations" and "Side characters" – pile up on the side.

I feel like this is better than an extra filter, like: Bases - Tags - Categories... and adding/removing folders. What do you think?

For example using a `_Sidebar.md` file as we use on github wiki pages

Or maybe another method, I have a lot of documentation generated on Cherrytree and markdown files(for git wiki repositories) And I think that Deepdwn could have something similar to organize the books.

Realistically, most of the time when I'm using Deepdwn, the folder selection system doesn't make since. I'm a programmer, and I hop from repository to repository, each one in a different location with different markdown files. It would be a huge quality-of-life feature and increase my usage of Deepdwn if I could just double click on the markdown file and it opens up in Deepdwn. As of right now I find myself using VSCode for such things. But I love Deepdwn!

Does Deepdwn have any functionality for importing images and using them as a navigation background? I.E: in programs like WorldAnvil or LegendKeeper it's possible to organize data spatially on-top of an imported image, for use cases like populating a map with pins that link to articles for specific locations on said map.

My desired behavior is that ctrl+clicking a reference link navigates to the target of the link. This is currently possible with standard links, but not reference-style links.

My use-case is in tables, where the standard link syntax can have a heavy impact on the width of a cell.

This can almost be simulated with footnote links, which navigate you to the footnote and could be used to include a link, but that is an extra step and extra characters that I find unnecessary.

Overall an excellent tool; the table editor in particular is outstanding.

One sorely missing feature is custom heading ID support (per the Markdown Guide here: https://www.markdownguide.org/extended-syntax/#heading-ids).

This feature is more or less must have for me, and presumably anyone working with documents containing  non-unique headings. This is  common in longer documents, and particularly in documents composed from multiple source files.

Custom Heading IDs would enable links to point to each specific heading instance, regardless of the uniqueness (or otherwise) of the heading text. E.g.,

## Brown Bears {#my-1st-custom-id}

#### Brown Bears {#my-2nd-custom-id}

In terms of editor-user experience, it would be nice if the custom ID markdown was rendered darker than the heading text itself, as are the ATX Heading hashes (###).

Please consider adding custom heading ID support soon !

I just purchased this app, and I think it's pretty great in a lot of ways. Very close to what I've been looking for.

My first and main comment is about Categories and Tags. This feature is among the top one to three reasons I bought your app. Now, I'd really love to be able to do something with them as far as exporting them to an html list, or *something*. I'm not just tagging my files for my own amusement, I want to be able to publish the metadata somehow. Or perhaps you know of a tool that can handle that? I'm so lazy.

I haven't actually started using it just yet so I don't have much nuanced feedback, but I was a little puzzled about the itch distro angle. It's cool, for now, I think. I'm of the opinion that you're wasting time with the appimage and snap route, though. Very romantic, sure, but I get a  definite "has-been-marked-for-deletion" vibe from both. Something political is happening with the whole repo scene, though, so maybe that's just me.

Also, for some reason I was under the impression that this app had linking to other notes built in already. Don't see that, wish it did.

Replacing the file:// URL with an http URL localhost:8000/static ... quote-issue.png works great, but its a bit annoying to have to run the Django development server just in order to make the screenshots accessible to deepdwn. It would be even nicer if one didn't have to type the filename (or cut/paste from ls -l  output) and could use deepdwn to browse available files (with thumbprint images?!) and insert the path of the chosen one.

I love Deepdwn and how consistent it is through all platforms in both look and feel.

I've noticed that in light mode, numbered and bulleted lists are not colored, but in dark mode they are colored blue. I was thinking that it would be better if the user could customize the color that numbered and bulleted lists are highlighted in to match the accent color they chose for the app, and have it present in both light and dark mode for consistency. I think adding a separate option that enables you to choose any color you want for the highlighted lists, to match your accent color, or turn it off altogether would be more consistent and suit all users.

My second request, is whether it is possible for Deepdwn to read txt files. I have a huge library of texts that are in txt format and it would be more convenient to have an option to either import them or be able to read them easily. I don't know how easy or difficult that would be however, so if it's not a hugely demanded feature and it's difficult to implement I'd understand.

Love your app and looking forward to see it improve further in the future!

https://itch.io/t/2783248/outline-processorOutline processor?https://itch.io/t/2783248/outline-processorFri, 14 Apr 2023 01:00:28 GMTFri, 14 Apr 2023 01:00:28 GMTFri, 14 Apr 2023 01:00:28 GMTHi—new to DeepDwn, geek but not developer (mostly IT support). I heard about Markdown ages ago when I read the original Daring Fireball post but hadn't realized how it had grown over the intervening years. I was reintroduced to it by Ulysses and Speare, because I was looking for apps to help my break down writing into manageable chunks (I'm writing-phobic) and to move from mind maps to text documents. In that vein, I have some questions and/or requests.

DeepDwn seems to be aimed at developers and geeks (I mean, the vim and emacs modes are a bit of a giveaway). Given that, an outline processor may not be the highest priority, but the lovely outline pane seems to cry out for it. That, and the new(ish) Fountain support would seem to be aimed at creatives and Scrivener refugees more than developers.

  • Is there currently a way to rearrange outline sections and their underlying text from the outline pane? This would provide functionality similar to cards in Speare or sheets in Ulysses without stepping too far outside of DeepDwn's existing UI.
  • While I'm at it, I haven't been able to get outline folding to work. Is there a post or page explaining that?
  • Is any form of OPML (outline processor markup language) planned? Many mind map / thought processor apps support that format. I'm not thinking so much of an OPML to Mermaid converter (I'm guessing those exist already) but a way to convert a mind map  into Markdown headings and body text.
  • Is there any facility for attaching non-printing annotations to text? Reference material can easily be created as external files in a folder structure, but I'd like to be able to tag spots in text with comments to myself, bookmarks, etc.

Regardless of whether these features are implemented, I can see DeepDwn being useful in technical documentation, especially since there is (some) Markdown support in ServiceNow (our ticketing system), and I have been writing quite a few knowledge articles. Having a solid, cross platform Markdown editor will be very helpful.

I wanna talk about it more about how I use it when I stream and want to have the clean version logo to put on my stream title stream and announcement tweet.

I also semi-related want to make dumb stream grid art work because I’m trying to remember to launch deepdwn via steam for ~ time-tracking reasons but looking at the boring black hero graphic makes me sad.

Thanks!

With any color, even white (which produces a light grey highlighting). Please make it possible to switch that off.

I have no coder biography but am only a writer. I understand that the highlight is useful when you are writing code. But for writing and editing text, whereby switching between paragraphs happens often, this blink-blink is stressful.

I'm not sure how easy or difficult it would be to implement this as an option, but I'd appreciate an alternative to Mermaid, if at all possible.

I like to use these features to link to definitions of things to keep them consistent. It would be handy to be able to see a small preview of that definition without having to go to the area where it is described.

In the same vein, it would be nice if you could click footnote links to go to the footnote.

This app is full of amazing features btw, I am impressed with every devlog I read.

It'd be great if this was configurable of what types of files deepdwn would see and process as a markdown file.

Bonus: Have a similar search feature set as vscode would be great (to be able to specifically include/exclude certain folders too).

I currently just open the the same deepdwn folder in vscode when I need to search right now and hop back and forth a bunch but would love to be able to stay entirely in deepdwn.

Bonus 2:  Alternatively, I'd pay $$ for a deepdwn fully integrated plugin option for VSCode (with all the graphs and everything in vscode preview mode. Then could leverage the built in search there.

I really love your work, it is the best markdown editor I have tried. But I also love pandoc and its features. That's why I implemented a filter to convert untouched markdowns made with DeepDwn to make them compatible. It actually only converts asciimath inlines and blocks, but that's all I needed. I think it could be useful to everyone, so I uploaded the code on Github. It has some issues, but it's something! The repo is https://github.com/mddigaetano/asciimathml-pandocfilter

I have to remember to paste the code into something like Notepad/Notepad++ first, and then into Deepdwn, and then it works.

For example, if you copy a line featuring redirect operators (> < etc) from here: https://www.gnu.org/software/bash/manual/html_node/Redirections.html straight into Deepdwn, it comes out like this:

"If >&- or <&- is preceded by {varname}"

becomes

"If >&- or <&- is preceded

by {varname},"

So you can see the conversion. Note that it happens inside and outside of code blocks. Also it's adding linebreaks where it shouldn't, but I've only just noticed that, so not sure how consistent or related that is.

I prefer to write in DeepDwn but i periodically have to switch back to editor that support that feature like Obsidian and VScode whenever i need to write/preview markdown as presentation slides.

From what i know VScode implementation is from this module MARP

I wonder you can implement this feature in future release.
