First things first: all of my works on itch.io are safe for work, and none of them is being taken down at the moment. In the meantime, I am checking my backups for all my fanfics and works, because we're moving!
Before I found out about itch.io, I posted my first RPG maker game on a Taiwanese RPG maker forum. People there complimented my work and I felt appreciated. Then, I struggled to find a place to post my final project for university. That was when I was introduced to itch.io. If it weren't for itch.io, I probably would't be making so many games, so I owe this platform for that.
However... I do contemplate on the idea of making mature games. I've always loved Japanese eroge, not just for the adult content but also for the aesthetics, the feeble balance between gameplay and fan-service, etc.. Which breaks my heart even more seeing Japanese artists and game developers being discriminated to such a degree, that huge corporations are cutting off their lifelines.
As I've stated in one of my devlogs, I will always stand with those who are forsaken. If I can't be with them, I should at least step away from the prosecutors. So this is how we say goodbye: Thank you, but I should never see you again.
I'm still packing; which means I am organizing my files that should be moving. AO3 is conveniently down at the moment so some of my fanfics have to wait, but I already have a few places in mind.
As for substitution for writing tools, I already have two offline tools ready. And my moving plans consists of:
1. A blog for hosting both fanfics and games, as a refuge and the backup station
2. After the first refuge is secured, build a personal website. This is mostly for games that run in browsers
There was a time where I could choose to become a blogger that lives off monetisation. Yet, due to a lot of complications in real life, I landed as a teacher. I teach gremlins at day, write fanfics or make mini games at night. It takes a lot of willpower to uphold this lifestyle, but when push came to shove, I don't need to worry about my income. And my heart goes out to those who are panicking as their ways of living are in severe crisis.
The least thing I can do is to stop supporting bad platforms, protect my works, and teach my students to be good people in the future. I'll update as soon as I have a new place!
