Day 1 - Starting My Game Development Journey
This is my first post. I am a Computer Science teacher in the UK and for just over a decade I've taught kids the basics of programming. I lost the bug for coding a while ago as nothing really hit my passion - you probably would lose it too if you spent years teaching basic if statement logic. However, as I move away from the classroom and into management I've found the bug once more and decided that I wanted to learn to make games; something I've always wanted to do.
Yesterday I downloaded Godot and Aseprite, but found myself a little out my depth. I realised that Unity had a larger ecosystem for tutorials, and decided my first foray should be there. So, I bought a Unity course, and I am going to blog my way through the course. This isn't because I think anyone will be interested in my journey but because it helps me reflect on what I am doing and solidifies the concepts in my mind.
I'm about 2 hours into the course just now, had a small break as a tradesperson found another disaster in my house, but here's where I am up to so far.
I might write a second post later today. Not sure!
Delivery Driver Game - 4pm
So far, I've learned about the Unity interface, set it up to work with VS Code. VS Code is what I am used to using at work, so it was great that this course tied that into the workflow. It's been slow going but, I've set up my first 'thing' that feels playable at this point. So, in summary the things I've covered are:
In terms of coding - heres what I've covered so far
