I have decided to start dabbling in game development, from scratch. Over the last couple weeks I have been learning Godot and trying to throw together a game at the same time. The ultimate goal of this particular project is to create a top-down, space trading, adventure game. If I'm able to achieve that and especially if I see any success from this project, I may continue on to other projects.
One central feature is the ship building mechanic. Ships consist of different modules stacked in a single line. Each module offers different stats allowing the player to customize and upgrade ships to suit their needs. Local space travel will operate on Newtonian physics, in a series of scaled down planetary systems. There will also be a hyperspace mechanic that allows you to travel to distant stars.
Currently, I have a mostly functional "Ship Building Demo" that will allow players to preview the (currently limited) parts available, and play around with assembling ships. The plan is to allow players to save these ships and load them into the full game
At the moment I have no timeline for any stage of development, but I felt I was at a stage of development where it was appropriate to put my name out there. I'm a dad working a full time job, so free time is limited. I'm always open to suggestions and constructive criticism, I honestly have no idea what I'm doing.
