My first project - A Persona Like JRPG (placeholder title)

Project Premise

I'm starting my game dev career by creating an idea I'm passionate about . A JRPG like Persona.
I have done plenty of research to be sure I can make the project with the correct scope and finish it without spending 10 years on  it but a couple months max, without compromising the quality or length of the game and my vision for this project.

I have plenty of experience in several fields and I'm sure that by using existing assets and the ones I will make, in a respectful, and meaningful way, and crediting the artists that made them available (god bless their soul, I hope I can make them famous lol) I should be able to realise my dream.

There are other things on stake with this project, so I must succeed no matter what.

Before speaking about my plans in future posts or updates, I will share with you some screenshots of the work in progress I have done in these two days since I have started.

I have coded some of the systems in Godot and it's going smoothly, thanks in great part to some of the code I had already done for stand alone systems to learn the engine, so I ported and adapted them to this project.  This may be my first game but that doesn't mean my experience with coding is null, in fact I have a certain affinity for it and I studied programming back in school with high marks.  I have messed around with Godot and different languages for some years now.

Inventory System

The items you see in the screenshot of the inventory are not some of the final items I will use for the game. At least not yet, they are just placeholder to test stuff at the moment.

Main Area Hub (like in persona game)

Areas of exploration will consist of 2D backgrounds (I already found the perfect town for my project and I have plenty of material to work with in Photoshop), and for dungeons I plan to make 3D tiles to map them in P4 style, more or less.

I will talk more about them later and future posts, as for the main Hub I'm working on coding the menu. The cursor you see there next to the first button, I made that in blender using Shin Megami Tensei games as source of inspiration inspiration and I coded the input to at least move it up and down. I have a game state variable that checks where the player is in the game so that inputs or game features will be enabled or disabled based on that variable value.

That's all for now, I will update the project frequently and work on other channels to share my project. Thanks for reading and I hope you look forward to future updates and to the game.
