Concerns about non-physical media grows.

Hi, I'm Alethila, the founder and CEO of WindowsLogic Productions, me and my partner create games for your enjoyment as best as we can, being a 2 person team, this is quite hard as we require a bit more time to create than other game companies. But regardless of that, one thing we do not agree with is piracy of our games, be it sharing or illegally downloading. We need this money to grow financially as we are a start-up with zero funding from loans or the like. I'll be completely transparent with you about anything company-related, we are worth about $2,000 in net revenue since we started in October 2022 as I'm writing this, and most will ask how we're even surviving - barely is your answer to that one. We pay £40.80 per month for the server that hosts game updates and that cuts into what little profits we get, so piracy of our games ensures we can't continue to produce them and will become unprofitable.

But this blog isn't about piracy, it's about the software you pay us for, what you get when you pay for our software, if there's some worry if you won't be able to access our software in the future for some reason etc. I personally believe that when you buy something, you own the license of that media to be listened to, played or copied for your personal use, but how many game companies also believe that you should always have access to the copy you originally payed for? Ubisoft for example are stopping you from playing The Crew - a racing game that many people enjoyed for its open world, me being one of them. Now that purchase is down the toilet because Ubisoft saw dollar signs in their eyes and are discontinuing the servers for it so you can't play it anymore and have to basically buy whatever new "The Crew" game they have next in line. You can never enjoy that experience again.

In the case of all software that WindowsLogic Productions produces, we do not make our games connect to servers for solely playing it, the only time our software phones home is when it needs to check for an update, if we stopped a game from being played that would be considered online DRM which is just annoying to everyone. As a result of our philosophy, we allow everyone to download software that we've discontinued for free regardless of if you payed for it or not, this is a compromise for people who never got the chance to play the game/use the application while it was still being sold or supported. This isn't to say your purchase is meaningless and you'll eventually get the game for free if you wait long enough, some games such as Town Girls will be getting infinite support until we stop breathing, this is the same with our other games which are either released or still in development, your purchase matters and we will give you a copy of the games you purchased, regardless of if we go defunct or if our servers go down.

Thank you for reading this ramble, physical media is disappearing and we're considered digital media so I just wanted to make sure you know we won't leave you in the dust.

- Alethila, Founder and CEO at WindowsLogic Productions.
