Feb. 13th, 2024 Devlog: It's Been A While...

Note: Crossposted on Tumblr.

Hello, fellow gamers, game devs, and writers!

It's been a WHILE since I last posted here. I took much of the past five months focusing on other priorities (such as looking for more game writing work, polishing up resumes, focusing on my work as an author & poet, etc.). Because of this, I didn't have much to talk about on the game dev side of things. My two major things are this:

1. "Save The Prince," which I announced in the last game devlog, is still on the way!

I was a bit behind with development as this was my first time using RPGMaker MV, but I think the game is mostly done. However, I'm probably not going to release it until either March or April because...

2. I'm participating in Untitled Game Jam #88!

It's been such a long time since I last participated in a game jam, so I figured I might as well participate in another one again!

The theme is "Abandoned," and I'm creating the game using RPGMaker MV as well. Because of my focus on the game jam right now, "Save The Prince" is on a short break development-wise. The jam ends on February 18th, but I hope to complete and submit the game much sooner than that. Don't expect this to be a long game, since this is my first game jam in a while and I'm still relatively new to using RPGMaker MV, but it's been fun to practice some elements of game writing where I can in there.

Also, for those who are interested in game dev or just making your own games for fun, RPG Maker XP is free for a short time (Feb. 12-19th 2024) and some of RPGMaker's other software is on sale! I've had a lot of fun working with it to make games other than text-based ones, so I highly recommend giving RPGMaker a go if you want to make it. I also recommend looking up tutorials on Youtube to help with getting started.

I also am still looking for game writing work, which I recognize is not easy to do right now. The game industry has gone through several layoffs and it's disheartening to see. However, I still am cautiously optimistic about looking for game writing work. I'm also open to doing marketing for games as well.

Thank you in advance for your support! If you'd like to check out my work, please see my portfolio and my other projects. Happy gaming!
