Announcing "you, alone"

Announcing "you, alone"

Starting simple, who am I and why should you care?

  • Who am I?

I'm a solo developer, I started learning game development as a hobby in 2018, back then I was a kid with a slow computer who liked making games, it started on Scratch when one of my teachers showed us what you could do with simple code and a bit of thinking, then I tried Construct3, liked it because of the very low skill ceiling and then I migrated to Unity, which I use to this day.

  • Why should you care?

After 5 years of making projects and prototypes, I accumulated knowledge that makes me who I am today, a game developer with an unwavering determination.

What about the game?

you, alone is supposed to be a detective horror game, you randomly wake up in an undisclosed location that's supposed to be empty at first sight, but looking for clues as to why are you there, you discover there were people in the same spot as you, trapped and trying to escape, they couldn't, but maybe you can?

  • What's the progress currently?

Progress was relatively slow in the beginning when I didn't know what direction I wanted to go with the game, there used to be multiple iterations of different ideas based on the core of "Survive while something may be right behind your back" and during that phase, I tried making an open world survival game in which you had to leave the safety of your lovely bunker to seek resources and bring them back so you could survive, but that didn't stick to me, making an open world game as a solo dev is overwhelming, I had days in which I didn't make any progress at all because I thought what mechanics should I implement and what the game should feel like, and in the end it all fell apart, too many bugs to fix and every time I fixed one, two totally unrelated bugs would appear in the most unexpected way. So I decided to scrap the whole open world plan and make it instead as one linear type of game, in a way I tried to make it more "Resident Evil" and less "The Forest".

Currently, there are 2 rooms and to progress from room to room you must find clues about what could open the door and what would await you on the other side, something like "Remember this, it will help you soon!" so ordinary things like paintings and notes could help you speculate and guess.

  • When are you releasing it?

Not in the near future, but the demo could be released around late February or, the first of March.

also thanks for reading until the end, here's some photos of the game.
