I am incredibly excited to announce my Souls-like, Survival Horror hybrid game titled CRISPR. CRISPR is inspired by the real life gene editing technology, Crispr Cas9. The games story aims to explore the ramifications of what happens when the pursuit of scientific progress is pushed too far, and at what cost should sacrifices be made. In the world of CRISPR, global warming has reached it's climax. As a result, server weather plagues the surface of the planet, and war has broken out between countries over resources. In a desperate attempt to find a solution to the crisis, the US government has turned to science to try and find a solution. In the game, you play as John, a mentally scarred war veteran who has been recruited by a nameless organization to retrieve a value asset from a private facility. However, John quickly realizes that something has gone horribly wrong at the facility, and now he must fight through unspeakable horrors to survive, and discover what dark secrets are hidden in the depths of the complex.
I'm combining my two favorite game genres together, Souls-like and Survival Horror, to create a compelling hybrid. But with an emphasis on telling a compelling, cinematic story, with memorable characters that you care about and want to see live. My influences are games like Bloodborne, BioShock Dead Space and Mass Effect. As well as movies like Aliens and John Carpenters The Thing. There will be plenty of exploration, secrets to uncover and enemies to face in the game. This is my dream and passion project, and I have been working on it solo for a little over a year now. It's being developed in Unreal Engine 5, and it's still very much a work in progress. The road will be long to completion, and this is my very first indie game. They always say to not make your dream game when you first start out, and they're probably right. But I'm crazy, and thrive on a good challenge. So I told myself that I didn't care how long it takes, or how much it costs when I started. I'm making my dream game, and there's nothing anyone can do about it lol.
My goal of this project isn't to make money, but to just make a good damn game that I can be proud of. I won't lie, it's been a grueling journey so far. So I would love to have your company and support as I continue to work on it. It would really mean the world to me. I have a YouTube channel where I've posted devlogs on the game for about a year now, so please feel free to follow me there and join my discord channel. From here on out, I will also post my devlogs on here as well.
