In the new year, people usually set goals and start doing something new... but not in my case, this year I decided to remember my old hobby: game development. When I was 14-16 years old, I often got stuck in Ren'Py or RPG maker.
Some of my projects were not so bad, at least in terms of narrative design and mechanics. I never paid enough attention to graphics, so usually most games consisted of the same elements.
Then I didn’t know about the existence of platforms on which I could share them with other people, to be honest, I don’t know if they existed at all then. I would like to share them now, but my previous HDD broke and all the data was erased. Disappointment of all progress loss, unwillingness to rebuild everything again and many other activities provoked my hobby to fade away.
From time to time I had a desire to return to my hobby, but I formed the idea that everything needs to be done efficiently, and since I can’t create a AAA game on my own, then “it’s not worth it”
But this year, due to the fact that I moved to another country of residence, I spent the New Year's weekend, not in the company of friends or family, but at home. I got bored and decided to open the .txt file and write something there, I wrote down a few of my thoughts, and decided to brush up on the c# syntax since I hadn’t used it for a long time. I wrote several variables, methods and classes.
Then I decided to make the practice more interesting, and added some meaning to the code. So I wrote a simple console application. After 2 hours a simple text RPG was finished. And I liked it, despite the fact that it does not have graphics, any sound and is very limited in mechanics.
And at that moment I realized that as a child I was smarter than at a more conscious age.
No one becomes a master of sports or a musician with one workout or one song. Quality is made from many failures and mistakes.
No one will ever judge you for doing something poorly if you don't understanding it
Therefore, I would like to share with you this seemingly banal, but little used knowledge:
Try something new, make mistakes, don’t be ashamed of your mistakes and don’t let them stop you.
When we see the result, we do not see the number of mistakes or failures done.
Strive for something and you will definitely achieve something, even if it is not what you initially strived for.
